New Member! First bike: '77 750K

Picked this sucker up for $275 today. 28K miles, seized motor, and brake fluid is no longer fluid! I believe it's all original other than that dumb thing that was on the front. It has 3 plates on it. One registered in 1979, the next in 1980, and the next in 1982. It's sat in a barn for 30 years. The tires have held air for all this time though! All oil leaked out of it because whoever previously owned it didn't car to make sure all the screws were on the trans and alternator covers.

In about 5 or 6 hours I removed the tank, removed the thing in the front, removed the rear cargo box (both those were a pain since the bots were all rusted), got all the engine mounts out (I think) and removed the chain. I also had to take the ignition switch out and go get a key made it had none! I can't wait to pull the engine and clean this bad boy up!

What should I know about this? All I know is it's a 1977 750K. That means ~65HP, 5-speed manual, and sexy ride. How do I know if it's the Super Sport edition?

ALSO! I've heard that the spokes are rare or something. Is that true?

Also, I'm going to tear down the engine. If anyone needs any pictures of something for reference let me know!

Used a winch to hold the frame so I could wiggle the engine out. This took a while. Thud! Covered the motor with penetrating oil and WD40, then powerwashed it.

Looks like you're on a roll!   All of the Super Sport bikes are F models. Since yours is a K...well,you know The only real difference between the K and F is some minor styling differences and the F's have a rear disc. You can get the serial number off the engine case,if it is an E series I believe that would make it an F model engineThere's a couple more ponies in those. Keep on wrenching!

Ran into a stumbling block :( pistons are frozen solid. I don't really know what to do. I got the jugs off. Had to cut the cam chain and will have to drill the bolts out of the cam gear.

I just picked one up today. Haven't torn it down enough yet to know the piston size. I believe it is a 1972 though!

i did hear that spokes are a nice find ... i have a 79 K model and I was happy to have spokes not a big fan of mags.

Didn't all K models have spokes and all F models have comstars?  I think a ltd edition K may have had comstars.

I personally like the look of wires over coms, but to each their own.

Since motor siezed you will want to check bearings so complete tear down is necessary then a big bore kit keep it under 900cc or it will beat itself up.check electrical lights guages etc. Since this is new to you buy a service manuel you will really need it. Shop around for machine work and have them give you a price based on what there looking at ,not after you drop off parts ,they wil call you and say its more work than they thought it would be.once you have a good motor and CLEAN CARBS,NEW POINTS and battery it will go together fast and fun.Your engine has a better cam than early 750cc motors so keep your cam if it isnt messed up Good Luck.They get easier after the first dozen.
