Re: New build coming...Rover

Lucky 1
The clutch was not disengaging and usually I just put it in gear when it warms up and it releases but it seems really stuck.

I might try to ride it and see if it unsticks but if it won't then I will have to take the plates out and clean them or at least see if I can unstick them some way.
I thought maybe I could stick a thickness gauge between them and maybe some seafoam.
But the sea foam seems a little risky.

I will just have to wait till tomorrow and see.

One website said kick it over with it in gear and the clutch pulled in.
Might try that, but it sounds doubtful.

I have the special socket for taking the clutch out, but I am really afraid of that lifter plate gettin cracked.
It can break very easily and it costs $51.00 or more for a new one.

Well this is Sunday March 17th 2013.

I took the clutch apart to get the plates unstuck.
The outside plate was not stuck at all.
The inner plates were stuck but not badly.

I put it all back together without breaking the lifter plate.

i just kept tapping on the plate after every few turns of the bolts.
You can tell the tapping is lining it up because you turn the bolts a little and they are slightly tight. Then you tap a couple times on the plate with a small ball peen hammer so when you go to tighten the bolts a little more, the bolts are loose from getting the right alignment.

When I was all done the clutch would not disengage!!
F!@$%%^%^

So I had to do it all one more time and it went very smoothly.
Good practice I guess.

So I am having a sandwich and hot cup of tea and relaxing.

Oops! lots of typing mistakes wow. Thanks TOOLS1.

Today I changed the handlebars.
The "window" bars are just something I put together
To find out where I wanted the bars by using two pairs of old handlebars.
After all the welding and fitting they were not straight.

They were in the right place though.
So I ordered new bars with the measurements I had of the ones that fit right.
I got the new ones and they look much better. I will post photos tomorrow.
There is no cross bar now obstructing my view of the instruments unlike the previous ones.
They are Flanders Bars.  A good company.

They are a flat track looking kind of bars powder coated black.
They look very nice and improve the looks of the bike.

Thanks for checking out my thread.
In the video I noticed the license plate and rear stop light are wiggling around.
I guess the video is a good diagnostic tool LOL...

It seems the better the handlebars look, the more uncomfortable the ride.  I'm skipping clubman's to go with drag bars (maybe a riser).   You should post a few ride photos.   I welcomed the first day of spring yesterday with a foot of snow.  I threw two tarps and a cover on the bike with a lawn chair to keep the high winds from blowing it all away.  lol.  I think I need a 12 pack of anti-depressants.  EZ

Yes I understand.

I always make sure my handle bars are comfortable.
It ruins the entire ride if you have reach for them.
Kills your back too.

Lawn chairs on top of tarps! Nasty!

Go get a large hot pizza and some beer.

Nothing wrong with that video, or the bike.  It all came together very nicely.  My compliments.
I did a similar video when I changed the exhaust on my bike.  It gets the point across.

I like the bars.  My bike has a pair of those "ram's horn" ones that really put a crank on my wrists.  I'm looking at something like those to reduce the angle.  Are they "Daytona" style, or something else?

Enjoy the bike!

The bars are from Flanders co., one of the oldest handlebar makers.
They are in the Import>Additional street bars (bottom left of page), A34 black (kawasaki LTD)style.
11 inches pull back,5.5 inches rise, 6 inches wide at the triple tree, 30 inches total width.

They are mounted on one inch risers with one inch pull back reversed and turned upwards.
It the stock position they would be lower and closer to the rider 1 inch in both directions.

"Daytona" or "Superbike" bars are much lower than my A34's but more comfortable than "Clubmans or "Clip ons" made mostly for racing.
