New here and just wanted to say hello and show my CB

trapper

Hey folks. I'm Trapper. Just wanted to introduce myself and show the start to my 81 CB750c rat project.
Got some slow moving plans for it. Working on covering the whole tank in stickers then clear coating over them. Cutting a solo seat for her and a raised pylon seat for the old lady, swapping the boxy tail light for a cats eye and the directionals for smaller "tear drop" ones. Got a set of apes for it too, just gotta get the longer cables/hoses etc.... Right now the whole front end is off cuz I'm changing the fork seals and steering bearings so, I figure while it's like that I'll work on losing a bunch of the display cluster. Tac don't work anyway and I don't need it and the dummy lights just bug me. Also thinking about mounting a smaller head lamp I have. I'll post new pics as I move along. Any suggestions or thoughts (even the bad ones haha) feel free to speak up. I'm finding some real helpful topics here and I hope to be able to help others the same.

Welcome Trapper!
Yours sounds like the polar opposite of my 81 C model, but damn good ya for making her your own. Looking forward to seeing more!

I see you're going for a more cafe look? I have an old KZ I'm thinking of that with. But that's a far down the road project. Just did the fork seals and steering bearings on my CB today. Also cut out a bunch of the cluster. It's coming along. I'll post more pics once I finish putter her back together.

hey welcome to the block, I have an 81c as well.  A big topic here are those pods on the carbs, does taping them off actually work (kind of like nascar taping off the grill lol)  someone once said to put plastic bags over them to create the vacuum needed.  Oh well, my .02 welcome bud!

Re: New here and just wanted to say hello and show my CB

It didn't help one bit haha. But I left it there, half cuz I kinda like the way it looks and half cuz I am to lazy to pull it off. I had to re jet it to compensate for the excessive air. Went up 3 sizes from stock and it runs like a champ now. I honestly would have stuck with the air box (even with wanting to go rat bike/bobber) but this among many other things were all things I had to fix from the previous owner. If you saw this one when I got it you would have cried. He put the pods on, and kept trying to fiddle with the carbs but got nowhere (of course... He didn't jet them) Once I got into it it was a horror show. The carbs looked like they had been beaten with a waffle hammer. The 3 and 4 over flows were busted off and filled with JB weld. 2 of the pilot screws were so over tightened they were stripped out.. I just wound up getting new carbs and rebuilding them myself.

So yeah, you can try to restrict the airflow in a few different ways but all in all I have found the two best options are to rejet or keep the original air box.

Moved the choke cable today. Took the mount for the old side covers (another thing I never got from the previous owner) and welded an old one I had sitting around to it. Cut the choke cable down to about 8" give or take and put her in.

Front end stripped down for the new steering bearings and fork seals

First attempt at moving the speedo... Not sure how I like it.. We'll see once I get it together. I might try to tighten it up some.. Maybe move the ignition and slide down the speedo a bit more.

This is an old master I had off an old KZ laying around. Better then the beat up one that came on the bike... A quick attack with a can of "new part" and......

I am a big fan of Kawasaki master cylinders myself. Easy, and cheap to rebuild, and they look good.

It's always something... Trying to bleed the brakes and I found out why my front brakes weren't so good. Right side never got bled before and the bleeder screw is all clogged up. Yay previous owner screw ups. I am so tempted to go to this guys house and take any and all tools he has away and forbid him from working on anything with a motor ever again haha

Oh yeah. Little soak in some PB blast and some poking with a wire and I got the rust out. Now my brakes should work well. Test drive tomorrow after I finish up the wiring.
