Hey guys (and gals),
My name is Adam. i just joined this forum recently and I've been lurking and soaking up some information to get my bike running. I picked it up off of Craigslist for $700 with 27K miles on it. It wasn't running when I got it, but the previous owner said it had been sitting less than a year. He had also fired it up two months prior. The tags had only expired in October of this year.
I got myself a Clymer manual and a new battery. Then I took apart the carbs and cleaned them (wouldn't have had the courage to do that without the help of this great forum
). I also flushed out the gas tank, added new fuel lines, cleaned out the petcock and screen, and installed a new fuel filter. I also changed out a few instrument cluster lights.
When I got it all back together it fired up withing 10 seconds of pushing the button. With a little adjustment of the idle screw, I was able to get it to idle without the choke on
.
My next step is to check the timing, and maybe make my own carb syncer thingy. It still idles a little rough and has some rattling. From what I've read on here a good carb sync is worth its weight. I just picked up three of the four NGK Iridium plugs (NAPA only had three in stock, picking up the other one tomorrow).
Anyway, thanks for all of the help that I got from all of you anonymously
. And here are a few pics
