New member from Oregon. '81 CB750K

Nussbaumer
Hey guys (and gals),
My name is Adam. i just joined this forum recently and I've been lurking and soaking up some information to get my bike running. I picked it up off of Craigslist for $700 with 27K miles on it. It wasn't running when I got it, but the previous owner said it had been sitting less than a year. He had also fired it up two months prior. The tags had only expired in October of this year.
I got myself a Clymer manual and a new battery. Then I took apart the carbs and cleaned them (wouldn't have had the courage to do that without the help of this great forum). I also flushed out the gas tank, added new fuel lines, cleaned out the petcock and screen, and installed a new fuel filter. I also changed out a few instrument cluster lights.
When I got it all back together it fired up withing 10 seconds of pushing the button. With a little adjustment of the idle screw, I was able to get it to idle without the choke on.
My next step is to check the timing, and maybe make my own carb syncer thingy. It still idles a little rough and has some rattling. From what I've read on here a good carb sync is worth its weight. I just picked up three of the four NGK Iridium plugs (NAPA only had three in stock, picking up the other one tomorrow).
Anyway, thanks for all of the help that I got from all of you anonymously . And here are a few pics

Nice looking ride. Are you sure it's a k? I guess someone could have put the com stars on it. K's came with wire. Someone did put aftermarket front rotors on.

Great score!
Like seestheday said, looks like a mixture of models with the comstars but I think only the US spec "K" had spokes. (don't quote me on that)... but I also noticed it dual front rotors with a drum rear. Maybe a "C" front end and wheels on a K model bike.
Either way, someone did some tasty mods to her, I dig the looks of the drag bar...
I think you done good!

To be honest I'm not sure if it's a K or not. Now I'm not even sure where I got that from. Regardless, I love the style of it and I've always been a fan of mags.
I still have some more troubleshooting to do. I will search some more through the forums. And if I don't find anything I will start a separate thread.
BTW which part of the VIN do I check to find out K or not.

This was the PO's primary vehicle for a couple of years. That's how it got the miles. Besides, in Oregon, if you don't ride in the rain then you don't ride.

    Guess I wasn't  clear
   Does your speedo read Miles

Can ya still get a 1/4 registration there, lived in Eugene in early 70's and off & on in towns down to Grants Pass/Medford area,
Rain no maybe 50% like here in Midwest, heck there it's 80% throughout the year.
I may be in Springfield come June at Elijah park.Family Reunion

OH, now I get it! Yes, it reads in miles. I should have said 27,000 miles. Also, I'm not sure about that 1/4 registration, but I'll look into it. Although I do plan on riding most of the year.
I'm located just outside of Portland in a small town called Scappoose. But I do a lot of work around Eugene and Springfield. Maybe we can grab a beer and  swap stories when you're in town. .

Update: I took her around the block for our maiden voyage together. It was AMAZING! I haven't ridden motorcycles in far too long and it felt great. The bike performed mostly flawlessly. There are a few more things that aren't quite perfect but they aren't safety issues. So I'm going to put some miles on her and see if they work themselves out.

I would like to thank everybody on this forum for giving me the information and the courage to get her up and going.

I can't even believe the power of this thing. I used to have an '80 CM400T and it was fun. But my CB just wanted to explode off of every gear. I'm a very pleased motorcycle owner.
