Newbie: '80 CB750K

I just picked up today a CB.  This looks like a good Forum for newbies like myself.

My first question: I just purchased bar-end mirrors and when I opened the grip's ends there is something inside the stock bars?  What is it?  Obviously the new mirrors won't fit within :/ Any suggestions?

I believe they are weights to minimize vibration at the grips.  Seems like the are kinda spring loaded, and if not rusted in, a squeeze in the right area pulls them right out.
