Hello guys.
I have a noise coming from the engine after warming up.
It sounds like a chain touching to a metal part I think on top of the engine and starts at 3000 rpm.It stops over 3500rpm .when i drive cold I don't hear anything but as the engine warms up this noise getting worst.
I have tried to adjust both tensioners but the problem still there.
Any ideas?
My bike its a 1981 cb750f DOHC

Well, three ideas kinda stand out. I would check valve clearances first. As things warm up, tolerances change. So, I would check those to make sure clearances are ok.
I am not sure how your tension units work, but they could need cleaning. On some bikes, the unit can get old oil in it and that gums the rod for the tensioner. Pull those off and clean them out, you might even be able to dis-assemble them. Do so if you can to make sure they are good and clean. Maybe check the slack in the chain too. The tensioner can only handle so much slack.
After that, maybe your oil is just too thin. As it warms, it gets thinner, especially conventional. It might still have its protection level, but just allow more noise.
As a final thing, drain the oil and drop the pan. Look for metal shavings in the pan. If you find a lot of those, you have something bad happening.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

Problem solved!
I have tried the easier way, just change oil and now engine running fine.
I had 2500kmh with old oil but temp here in the summer goes up to 110 degrees.
Thank you so much for your advice. You have saved me money and time.

Yeah it was time. That is a lot of miles for oil in these bikes. Especially for a conventional.
You may or may not have it but Shell Rotella t6 synthetic works very well and is better in high heat. Otherwise, a good diesel oil that is not "energy conserving", usually says so on the bottle, will work well.
A regular car 10-40 gets chewed up pretty quick. given your heat, if you stick with conventional oils, you might look into a 20-50 weight.

I was using the french brand Motul motorbike oil 20-50.
We dont have rotella here but we have ams oil and mobil1(usa brands)
Some people say that is not good idea to use synthetic oils on these bikes i dont no why.

It will make the old gaskets leak.

Hmmm, i just did n oil change and used synthetic, now my head gasket is leaking, think I just found the problem.

That is a fallacy though. If it makes the seals leak, there were bad already and just sealed up by the sludge from crappy oil. No seal lasts for 40 years without going bad. I switched to synth years ago and had zero issues. Things leak slightly now because the seals are old and worn out.
Nope, leaking seals is because they are already bad. After all, if you put in new seals, synthetic isn't going to make them leak. And look at all the vehicles that come with synthetic, not leaking.
The synthetic oil is just unmasking the issue.

Yea. When you put synthetic oil in the old engine, it washes away the sludge, and the old seals that did not leak before, start leaking.

I guess I am in the boat where I like to know when my seals are going out instead of finding out when on the road and I get a leg full of hot oil! Not to mention a rear tire full of oil.

Oh yeah, I know the oil isn't a problem, just thats why it started leaking out of the blue. Already searching the interwebs looking for a gasket.

Can i use regular car oil?A friend told me that the clutch discs will burn out.

Of course you can use "car" oil. Just make sure it does not have "friction additives" in it.

It looks like gas treatment. Did you put it in your gas tank, or the crankcase? If it is in your crankcase, you will need to change the oil after a few trips around the block.

Yeah, I wouldn't leave it in for any length of time.
The only additives we usually recommend in oil is seafoam for cleaning right before an oil change.

so how often should I/we be changing oil? 2500km = 1500 miles -- I thought we were good for more than that!

I don't know if I would go 3000. It was 1000 back in the day. Oil is better now but I still wouldn't do it with regular oil. Synthetic, yes. Especially i high temps. I would also add an oil cooler.

If I changed my oil every 1,000 miles, I would be doing it every 2-3 weeks.
