I found a 1978 Honda Twin Star 185 for sale for 100 bucks. It is all there except for some small things--turn signals, throttle cable, a couple bolts that hold the chain guard. Does not have the carbs.
I don't mind a project and would like a bike project for this winter. Both of my current bike projects are almost complete already.
Overall it is in good condition and will clean up nicely. No rips in the seats, no major dents and paint is all there as far as I can see. The guy got it from a friend and used the carbs on his 200, which he sold this year. He said that his friend told him the bike lost spark (yes, that is the bad part).. .So it could turn out to be something serious, or it could be something simple.
Just a matter of opinion... Would you pick it or kick it?

The Twinstar is a pretty cool little bike. I built one, for Toolbabe (see "Toolbabes Bobber" in the build section here. Her's also had the same problems, you mentioned. I bought a brand new carb off ebay, for $30,00 shipped, and I had to replace the 6 volt coil also. Again ebay. However I bought an aftermarket one from England. $50.00 shipped. It is a lot better then the original coil.
Hope this helps in your decision.

Sure does. I'm leaning towards picking it up. I go out to look at it tomorrow after work. I figure for $100 I can't lose... If worst comes to worst and it turns out to be too much I can just part it out and get my money back. I checked pricing on parts and prices look managable.
I was wanting to turn it into a little bobber as well, but my fiance begs to differ stating I can only do that and have it turn out good with 400cc or more. I took a look at the one you are working on and it's looking good!
Another catch is that is has no title, but will have bill of sale. I'm not familiar with how difficult it is to apply for a title in Michigan.

I'm not familiar with MI, but have seen where guys there have gotten them on other forums.
As, for your Fiance, He needs a clue. Most really cool bobbers are 250cc or smaller. Just check out bikermetric.com

Yeah I really don't think the title thing will be an issue. I can always ask them about the process tomorrow.... Assuming there isn't a huge wait... On a Friday... yeah right.
I think it's just personal preference, he likes the bigger bikes (400-850cc). Right now even though I have the 750 I like the smaller bikes for projects. I'm still in the learning stages and they are just easier for me to handle and work on!
I think this may be the start to a terrible addiction... First reptiles, now bikes. I have expensive hobbies.

Pick it! An old roommate of mine had one in great condition. We lived right on the bay and had several bars and resturaunts within about 5 blocks of us. Used the Twinny for running around and bar hoppin, loads of fun. I would say keep it stock because they are kinda rare and look cool. On the otherhand, Tools bobber is very cool to, guess there is no wrong way to go. Good luck and put up pics!

Pick it! I would pick nearly any bike for $100. And I agree with Tools on the bobber thing. Bobbers are all about less. Minimal. The smaller the engine the neater/cleaner the finished product is. Sounds like a cool project. Ditto on the pics!

I would totally pick that. Only bikes I find around here for $100 are seriously damaged or disassembled and probably missing parts.

Pick it. Why not for $100 it's a great foundation for a project.
