Pod filters or air box??

I was thinking of chucking my stock air box, and getting pod filters??  Have seen strong arguments against it.  Would like some of your opinions, which is better...

I would only use pods if I was customizing a bike. Foe a daily rider they are a real pain. Especially on a DOHC.

I have pods on my SOHC.I DID have to rejet the carbs,which was something I HAD to do with the new exhaust anyways.The price of jets varies online,i got mine local for $80.That $80 worth of jets was two different sizes of mains and one set of low speed jets.I got lucky and got my tune right the first time,so no more had to be bought.I have ridden over 1,700 miles in the past couple months and the only problem i have had is wind.Going down the highway at 60-70 mph is not a problem.But if a strong side-draft hits you it kills the bike.I was going about 55-60 on a particular stretch of road one day when a big gust of wind hit me and it was all i could do to maintain 45 mph.I pulled the choke closed a little bit and it was all good,as soon as the wind passed i put the choke back open and all was fine.The wind issue is only noticable at highway speeds where the bike is somewhat revved up and trying to maintain at particular speed.If you just putting thru the mountains,say35-45 mph,where you are not really on it very hard ,just cruising,then the wind has not affected me.I have seen much stronger winds at low speed with no problems then that one day where it really affected me.Pods are not absolutely terrible,but i may reinstall my stock airbox someday to see if the gains warrant the occasional wind issue.

I prefer the airbox, it provides a smoother flow of air, protection from rain, and more uniform air supplied to all carbs.
If you DO go to pods, get good ones. Get K&N, do not get the cheap emgo crap. I prefer the airbox with a K&N, thats what I got now and it works great.
As shiny said, side drafts are an issue with pods. You must also support the backs of the carbs but that is just a simple wire.

Hmm.Supporting the carbs is something i never considered.I'll have to get on that.Thanks for the heads up

I have never seen any one support the carbs while using pods.

Maybe I'll relocate the factory throttle return spring to support the carbs...I think that spring should be good for about...what do you think...682 pounds? Yeah,thats about right

What about the crankcase breather tubes? Anybody have suggestions for those unsightly hoses danglin around down there.

You need to have that but you can put a little k&n filter on there that spiffs it up some.
