Ok, so this link will take a person to the new possible forum layout. It is the same format as right now, just added sub-topics for better sorting(hopefully).
http://vintage-and-classic-honda-s.1012526.n3.nabble.com/Ignore the Member's Bikes sub-forum as it is now rolled into a different sub. This page is from a backup done a couple weeks ago and set up for me to test on.
So, take a look, see what you think.
TOOLS, Shiny, Luke(if you see this), on that page, if you click "options" -> application -> change application type, you can select different layouts to see what they look like. We are on "mixed" right now. On the main forum, and this test forum.

I like the contrast of the black and white on this forum better, and I think trying to divide the sections by displacement might just make too many sub forums. I would just do "singles, twins, fours/six's. I would also like to have the general discussion at the top like it is here.

Well, the color can be changed. Way back when, it wasn't the black it is now. Plus, that was just the test. I wouldn't be changing the color at all.
Technically, the first forum(topics) is the cb750k forum, here. I just have not found how to label it as such. Right now, that is the same between this and the test. Because of that, I thought it would make it easier for people owning the smaller 4s to have their own sub, to post and get replies. However, I did still lump them a bit: 350/400, and 500/550/650. To avoid adding 5 additional subs, instead of just 2.
The General discussion can be moved. I moved it down on the test to have the bike help sections at the top. It can be moved back, easily.
Did you try playing with the layout to see if there was another layout you liked more?

Looks good to me. It's kind of ironic that the 750 doesn't have it's own subforum, after all, this was originally a 750 site. Just teasing, really, as I understand it's just a test pass.
I'm not against the blue TBH.
The "Mixed" format is definitely that most intuitive layout IMO. I tried all the other and they are very confusing to look at.
Just a thought about lumping the bikes together by displacement. Many people tend to gravitate to a particular engine layout, regardless of displacement. Guys who like singles often dig other singles, guys who like twins dig twins, etc. Would be best to build subforums based on cc, or would it keep things more "alike" the have singles, twins and fours?
A fan of the CB360 twin doesnt have a lot of common ground with a Cb400F owner, even though displacement is similar.

Well, that is the question isn't it. I don't think this forum host really offers the ability to customize enough to separate by cc and keep things clean, not without needing to know a programming language. Which I don't. Windows/mac, yes. redhat servers, yes. Programming languages, no.
So, I think it is best to keep it grouped by twins, singles. Now, I COULD do that with the 4s as well, but since we started with all models of cb750, tossing in 500s and such might gum things up. So I figured splitting those off a bit would be better. 350/400, 500/550/650. I put the 650 in with the 5xx because some 5xx owners have stuck 650 internals into their bikes, sorta like the cb900 cam into the 750.
The main topic section at the very top will stay the 750 area, but I might dig into the programming enough to see if I can change the name from "topics" to something a bit more descriptive.

Yeah, I was always curious about that being labeled "topics". Don't have any grand ideas, but that always seemed off.

You could get em all if you went singles and twins, fours and sixes.

Well, after poking around, it looks like without MAJOR work, this is how the forum layout will be.
So, to keep it as simple as possible, I am going to add subs for singles, twins, the smaller 4s (350-650).
I could add for the cbx, but I don't know if that one is worth it since there are not that many.
I will try to clarify the main topics section to show that it is the primary section for all cb750 models.
I could start an all new forum, but the problem is moving things would be impossible. Just not going to spend the time to move thousands of posts! So, I will add the sub-forums in now and we should hopefully just continue on our merry way.

OK, I added those subs in. I moved them up above the other sections. Mainly as the focus is on bikes and it keeps the sections more categorized. It is simple to change the order, so if people have different ideas on the order, let me know your pros/cons.
