Rear Brakes

Strongbow
Hi

Have a problem with my rear disc brakes, basicly the rear pedal stays down when I apply the brake. You can pull it back up if u put your foot under pedal, but it does not come back up on its own, any ideas please??

The return springs are inside the drum itself.

Take off the rod going from the pedal to the lever that comes out of the drum itself. If that lever coming out of the drum returns OK then it has something to do with the outside linkage or pedal. If that lever does not return when all of the other stuff is disconnected from it then the return springs inside the drum are either missing, fell off or broke. If that is the case then you really need to take a look inside that drum.If you have bits of spring floating in there bad things could happen...like one of them getting lodged and locking your rear wheel up at speed.

He is using discs, all  Are the brakes actually working or all they all gumed up as well?
Like Tools said, it may just need a good cleaning. After ~30 years of use and neglect, grease and brake fluid can get pretty crappy. I would pop open the calipers and make sure the piston is well lubed and checks out. Also, draining and refilling your brake fluid could help a lot, too.
