Remove motor to Remove Cylinder head?

Lemon Grove, Ca.
Hi
I have a 1982 CB 750K. I have to remove the Cylinder head. I have heard and read a few different sources on this. Some say remove motor and others say you do not have to remove motor for this procedure.

So.....which is it?

This is my first of prolly many posts to this forum.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly positive that you DO have to pull the engine. Which mean I don't know what I'm talking about so I should remain quiet. I'm pretty sure these engines are using studs that pass through the cylinder and the head,o there's not enough headroom to slide the parts over top of the studs while still in the frame.

But! The thing to do would be to download the free FSM (Factory Service Manual) on the homepage here. It'll will answer any questions you may have.

The DOHC engines are easy to remove, because the lower right frame is removable. I have done them by myself with a floor jack under the engine. I just wheel the engine out the right side.

i do have the FSM and it says remove the tank and stuff, then next step is remove camshaft, tensioner etc.
Says nothing about the motor R&I.  I may have missed it or read it wrong (very possible). However after looking into it more I am going to take it out anyway. Seems like a less frustrating and cleaner way to do it.

Thanks to both of you, not only for the response but also for the quickness of it!

I guess I have something to do tonite!

You can get the cam cover off to do the valves etc, but to get the head off you need to remove the engine. Like Tools says it's pretty simple, at least on paper. Just remember to put some string on the cam chain, it can be a bitch trying to fish that out if it falls.
