OK I am worn down from searching for a description on how to do a static sync on my 79 750K. I do have a factory manual and am not finding it there either.....?? The plan is to pull the carb bank off the bike, clean the bowl and jets, replace the float needles, bowl seals, and blow everything out, then do a static sync before replacing the set back on the bike. Any help would be appreciated greatly.

Since the slides on CV carbs are vacuum operated, and are not adjustable, I do not think they can be static synced. I know of no way to set the butterflies without using a sync gauge.

So how do you get the carbs close enough to run so that the sync
gauge can be used?

If they are that far off that they will keep the bike from starting, then they are really F@#$^& up, and should be thrown away.

It does start but doesn't want to and
needs the throttle to be bliped to keep it going and I don't think
I can manage that and the sync tools. Maybe the clean out will
help with the idol?? is there no way to help ensure an idol
condition with start up?

It sounds like your pilot jets are still plugged since it will not idle. The synce does not have much to do with that condition. All it is doing is making all the cylinders perform the same to balance the engine. You might also check, for vacuum leaks. That would also affect idle.

Download the MscGregor manual for the carb rebuild. Really good instructions and he tells how to do the initial static sync. If you're really careful, you won't need much adjustment to finish the sync process.

Agreed with ^^^^^^^^. Use an 'E' chord from a guitar, close the butterflies on that, and it should run really close to where it needs to be with a bit more other adjustments.
http://www.cb750c.com/publicdocs/SeanG/Honda_Carb_Manual_revD.pdf is the manual to follow for these bikes. Start around page 35, 36.
Good luck!

You cannot sync vacuum operated carbs slides on the bench. However make sure that all 4 butterflies operated by the throttle open at the same time.
We are not talking about choke butterflies.

Those butterflies should close completely. There are usually holes in them just large enough to sustain the idle.
When all else fails BUY a manual and read it.

I have a factory manual. It came with the bike. I have looked completely through it and found NO INFORMATION about how to set up the carbs, other than for the idol screws. Icerigger and cdaiscool have graciously forwarded some useful information. Those sync screws have to be set somewhat correctly upon reassembly if one is to expect the engine to run and idol. Common sense there. After all it isn't uncommon for and old bike that has been sitting to not run or idol without a carb teardown.

Lucky, I have to disagree. I followed the instructions in the MacGregor manual on bench syncing. It was supposed to just get it close, but when I hooked up my carbtune sync tool I found that they were perfectly in sync.
Maybe not everyone can get it perfect like I did because I may have been lucky, but you can definitely get very close.
