Here's a video of the noise it's making when in neutral. As you can see I can shift into gear just by pushing on the shift pedal  also mh kick starter seems really stiff like its needs a lot of effort to push down. Ahhhh I feel like I started with one problem and ended up with 20 more

With the back tire able to spin like that you WILL be able to shift gears without the clutch. I'm not saying it'll be smooth, or good for it, but it is normal.

Maybe your primary chain tensioner went kaput? Easy to inspect with only having to drain the oil and pop the pan off.

heres the cause to the noise i was having. i noticed that my shifting drum was moving in n out due to my netural switch not being all the way installed do you think that would cause movement in the gears to throw them off and lock up? looks like ill be sourcing out a new tranny

Yes! That would do it. Nothing in the transmission can be moving around.

First time I've ever seen busted gears from a sohc posted. Geez.

Yeah I read about it and heard but I didn't expect it to happen to me.  Lesson learned I guess. I'll tempted to just take it to a shop but seeing as no one in my area wants to work on my motor It looks like I'll be fixing it up on my own.

So I got my new gears in finally and before I got and seal this bad boy up again I want to make sure I am doing it right. So I have the cases together not sealed no clutch either my question. Is should I be able to cycle through the gears just by spinning the shift drum or will i also need to turn the cog that the drive chain goes on. Simulating the rear wheel moving?

I would be turning the cog if trying to go through the gears.

Okay. I remember last time I installed my gears I was able to go through the gears just by turning the drum

It seems 1st and 2nd gear are a little harder to turn than the other 3 is this a sign of warn gears? Or is that just normal when turn the cog by hand?
