I was just kidding, but I would like to get a set of those breathers, for the Bob-a-matic. I'll give him a call next month when I stop spending all my bike money on Toolbabes bobber.

Yeah i didnt know there were 2 different kind of carbs i wonder how mine it is mine work without accelerator pumps? i though that was a given on carbs? oh well there is alot i dont know
|
|
looking at this Clymer 1st words it says Chp.6 fuel system is "Several different Carb...",I'm not finding anything but says inside float chamber while talking about #2 carb, but photo of parts uses no such word as accelerator or diaphragm, more info well needed for thee round top carbs.like on a car you hit the gas it should give that quick squirt through a sml hole pointing straight into carb ? separate from the others,mine(K7/8,F2/3) same; work that way,but have new coming, why I've been reaing it all now.,Piute

HAHA i know Tools Well i finally have good news to report instead of a barrage of questions got the carbs spic and span, installed the air cleaners and she runs like a champ Not nearly as cold natured as before it will idle steady after 30-45 seconds and once warmed up revs clean and crisp!! the amount of throttle that it used to require to struggle to 4000 rpm is long gone bring up to about 2000 rpm and one good crank takes it straight to 6000!!! didnt mean to rev it that high just didnt expect it to jump like that, but, booooy did it sound mean kinda strange but after running for about 3 or 4 min one by one the carbs started POURING out of the vent lines but thats ok not gonna let a little flooding take the wind out of my sails!!! well...i said no?s but...Tools,you said to adjust floats to level but not to compress inner part of needle according to that all my floats were high so i dont understand why lowering them caused flooding BUT i also replaced my solid metal needles with the viton tipped ones but that should have been an improvement as well anyway there is light at the end of the quad carb tunnel for once WOO HOO BTW: My girl rocks today was her birthday she said "work on your bike...we can go out this saturday"..........i love you Crystal

Vroom vroom! Nice feeling, isn't it?
You shouldn't experience any flow out of the overflow tubes. That's kind of a fire hazard if it gets near the exhaust. While the needles are new, it's possible the seats may have some crud on them. I'm confident there's a few postings on how to check that and how to fix it. Do a search for needle seat or something similar.
Good job! Now on to the next thing. You'll be riding it before long.

Thanks luke It was a wonderful feeling!!! oh big time fire hazard they were pouring hard just odd that they didnt do it right off i waited a few minutes after setting the tank on to give the bowls plenty of time to fill and they never acted up until after a few minutes of run time then one at a time seats are clean as everything just got a good bath i probably messed up the float level or something i still need to find a primary sprocket and chain i have the rear sprocket but dont know how to tell a 520 from a 630 also need tires...money...tank...money...headlight...money...brake pads...money aaah someday haha

Question: what are the little whitish/grayish spacers between some of the fins on the jugs? For fin stability due to expansion and contraction/harmonics? Just curious as mine are dingy(match the rest of it :) ) and did not know if could throw them out or not
|
Administrator
|
HEY! My birthday is Sat. You better be celebrating mine! The things between the fins are supposed to reduce vibration. Sometimes the fins will vibrate, and make a sound. Also you might have to adjust your floats down.
Glad, you have it running good.

Yeah my Dad had 4 brand new ones in a row the last one he had was a 75 mom got it for him as a birthday present He put 357 miles on it,mom got pregnant with my sis and Dad sold it. He never rode again until me and sis were grown. He tried to buy a fatboy but the Harley shops around here act like they are doing you a favor selling you a bike he ended up getting a yamaha road star that was one pretty bike heavy but STRONG!!! I rode it once and was very impressed he started falling asleep on it and sold it too actually traded it in on a 4 wheeler and when pulling into the dealership to do the trade, the manager at the dealership pulled out in front of him as Dad was pulling in the lot locked the bike down and it slid the back tire til it blew manager didnt want to trade unless Dad paid for the tire and damaged rim a few minutes in the back room and all that was settled needless to say he is not happy about me building a bike oh well sorry Pops

48 olds with 1,000 hp you cant get ran over on a race track i guess*shrug* well bike is acting up again lowered and lowered and lowered float level until it would stop flooding ended up just cutting off fuel supply altogether dry bowls on 2 carbs so i swapped out the viton tipped needles(new) for the old metal ones and flooding stopped but now its running a rough again and wont rev and off idle stumble is back stumbles to the point that if you dont close throttle it dies AAAAAARGH!!! one ??clue?? i noticed today that i didnt have the carbs seated fully in the boots they were about 1/4" out pushed them in before i did any work on the floats wonder if air leaking in there was the only reason it ran so good last night because this hussie is pig rich im lost my hands stink and i am out of my element

I'd bet your running to lean, sounds like the same thing my bike was doing when i changed the exhaust. I cured mine with a drillbit set. I took out the main jets and found the bit that fit inside the jet tight then went to the next bit and drilled it out. Took me three times of pulling jets, drilling and reinstalling but it was easy since my carb bowls are held on with a spring clip. I noticed the after market pipes on yours so Ill bet thats it. Mine really runs great now, I like starting it with the kick starter by hand when people are around it really blows them away.
