That is the exhaust bearing holder. Not needed with a 4 into one.

yes ,it does matter whether or not you have the air box on or not,if you get the carbs serviced and buy a new filter you shouldnt have any problems .but try all you can to NOT use ethanol gas in it it will corrode your carbs pretty quickly

yes there are two types of carbs, and from the pic yours looks like a "F" model supersport and the carbs in the pic are from a "k" model. float level is 1inch with the needle and seat just touching measured from the bottom of the float to the body of the carb. also only the "f" model carb has a accelerator pump your "k" model carbs do not

Sand blaster! Did, you lay the bike on it's right side, and remove the frame from the engine? That's how I do it. Have done quite a few like that all by myself. Do try to get help when putting it back in though.

Checked on sandblasting today. Can get it done for $100.Not too bad,but I'm on a tight budget with this bike.I got an el-cheapo sand blasting kit and can do it in the yard but just makes such a mess. Not cheap either when you can't recover your sand.I'll just use paint stripper i guess.Elbow grease in a can
