To much fuel/carb cleaner?

Lincoln Highway Bullitt
Ok I built a bobber over the winter and have been riding it for 2 weeks now. It's been running great until today. The guy that synced the carbs told me to run some fuel /carb cleaner with the gas the first couple tanks because the bike had sat for about 10 years. Well last evening I filled up with gas and was adding my fuel additive and thought well the more the better right? Well today on the way home from work I was going through the gears and when the tach hit around 7000 it started to miss. Right away I thought electrical but then remembered the more the better theroy I went with the night before. I am hoping that is all it is. Anyone have any insite on this?

I hope it did not work trash loose in the gas tank, and it went into the carbs.

I put an external filter on it so I hope that caught it all.

At 7000 RPM were you racing or passing on the freeway?  I'm just wondering because during my 60 mph commute I'm shifting at 4000 RPM but I'm pushing for gas mileage rather than speed.

Easiest way to tell is to run it all out of your tank.  I know if you add too much SeaFoam to your gas, it will affect the engine -- it will run on pure SeaFoam, but it won't run well...  I would assume all fuel system cleaners will have a similar effect.  Best of luck.  Cheers!

At 7000 rpm I was enjoying the sweet sound it was making.

I think for normal maintenance-type use, about one ounce of Sea-Foam per gallon of gas is recommended.  You _can_ run a bit more than that, but the use there would be for winterization or extended storage.  I put my Shadow into hibernation, and I think I was running about 3 ounces of Sea-Foam for the 2.5 gallon tank.

I can't speak to any other fuel system cleaners, but too much of anything can't be too good.  A little bit of cleaner over a long period of time is probably better than a blast of cleaner over a tank or two.

Update: okay new plugs, drained the fuel, added fresh fuel and she fired up and running like a dream. So the theroy of more is better is wrong. At least when your talking fuel/carb cleaner.

did it only start missing at 7000rpm? did it stop when you brought it back down?

Cuz if it did, I might be having a similar problem...
