Troubles re-installing carburetors.

bebauer
I just recently purchased a 1982 cb750 custom.

I have removed and cleaned the carburetors, but I'm struggling trying to re-install them.

I can't seem to get the back boots on the carbs.

Is there a easier way ? or a video that I can't watch and see how its done ?

It's crossed my mind to say the heck with the air box and just put on pods, which would make it much easier to access the carbs.

Any thoughts ?

Remove the battery box and you will be able to slide the airbox  back enough to get it on.   if you go to pods  you will have to rejet the carbs.

Use a steel bar or broom handle to push the carbs back on the engine.  If that isn't working, make sure that the screws are loose in the clamps.

Take it from me - restored a CB750K3 with pods and no re-jeting.  It ran fine at idle and up to 45 MPH.  Above 45 it ran like crap.  I bought an airbox and when I opened the throttle you could really see the difference.

Can you just use a small amount of oil to help slip it on?

I use spray silicone. You can get it at any autoparts store, or even Wallyworld.

Thanks for the advice, I considered carb pods just for the fact that they are easier to put on and off when work on the carbs.
