Turn Signal Issues

Jarrod Ballou
I have a 1979 Honda CB750k with a bad turn signal relay. When I flipped on the turn signal, the corresponding back turn signal would come on and stay on and the front (which are always on, apparently) would go out and stay out until I cancelled the blinker. So I figured it must be a bad turn signal relay. Well, I replaced it yesterday and at first it solved the issue. The front and back blinked as they should, albeit very slowly. But after closing everything up and reassembling the headlight, I tried once more just to confirm and it started acting weird. The speed of the blink was inconsistent for a few seconds before it finally just stopped blinking completely and stayed off.

Not sure what happened there, could I have blown the new relay? I don't have any other electrical issues, the headlight, brights, brake lights, and horn all work fine. What should I check? I noticed the signal relay I replaced had 2 prongs and the new one also has 2 prongs, but I see 3 connectors, one being a ground which is currently unconnected.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That sounds like you have a bad ground on one of the lights.
Make sure all lights are grounded. I sometimes use a wire to help the front ground on bikes with tubes for headlight bracket. The CX500's have this and it helps them allot.

Use a wire and hold it from the light to a good clean spot on the frame to locate the problem area
