Update on my charging issue

rij1
This post was updated on .
So for some time I have been trying to find a rotor because my bike wasn't charging. I had it in a shop and they replaced the r/r but when I got it back it still didn't charge. I have been riding it around for a couple months now and have been having to charge it after every two days of use. I finally got my rotor today. I removed the rotor with a rear axel bolt and installed the new one. This one has an ohm's reading over 5 Ohm's.
I ran the bike and checked with my multi meter and got-
1,000 11.96v
3,000  14.32v
4,000  14.75v
Is this good?

Download the big shop manual if you haven't already. Page 98, charging system test….ideal voltage at battery terminals 12V@1,000RPM, 13.2V@3,000RPM, 14.5V@4,000RPM and over. Looks like yours is fine.
(The chart says these values can vary slightly depending on battery condition) The chart also shows the total system current draw in amps at various rpm's too.

I downloaded a manual from the manual section months ago from here .

cb750 1979-83

But page 98 of 442 isn't the charging system. Its the Cylinder head/valves section. Maybe there is another manual I need to download

Mark has a SOHC bike. When he mentioned page 98 he was probably thinking about the manual for his bike.

Your charging numbers look good, though. Good job. Enjoy!

Yep, if someone asks a question and I don't see what bike they have, I assume it's a SOHC. :) It's the preferred model after all. ;)

I have been having a charging issue since I bought my bike also and it is in great shape also but this is driving me nuts.. Its all about testing the charging components(Rotor, Stator, Rectifier/Regulator)Download the manual from this forum.

I'm sure my new R/R is bad now. I think I tested it right but i'm not sure. I tried to test how the manual said but I don't think it give a good description of how to or maybe i'm too stressed out to understand what little description it has.

I'v heard of heave duty r/r's but don't know how to find one. If someone knows please let me know..

Just curious but are you sure your battery is good?  It may take a charge and hold it for a bit, but it could still have a bad cell.  Take it to autozone and they can test it for you.  Sometimes its the simplest things.

Yes, My battery is good.

Here's what I found. I decided to check my rotor even though I just got it and found it to be the problem. No ohm's reading at all.. I looked at it and noticed it's a rewound and the insulation is cracked. I now have a $90 door stop..

also if just the insulation is cracked you can't fill it with another material that isn't a conductor?

Yes, I went through the download from the link. Thanks.
But I got screwed on the rotor I purchased from ebay. The part doesnt give any ohms reading and the guy I bought it from isnt answering my messages.
