Valve Question on how to check

FastCletus
Just so I am clear
I take off valve cover and take cover off to turn engine.  To check cylinders 4 and 1 I need to have the notch on the exhaust valve in the "b" position or at 3 oclock on cyl 4?  then to check other cylinders turn engine to 6 o clock, then 9 and and then 12 and check remaining cylinders

If this be the case, where should cam lobe be facing.  when exhaust on 4 is at 3 oclock

I will make it simple.

Turn the engine so that the lobes of the cam are both facing downwards at 45ยบ for that cylinder.
That is the compression stroke of that cylinder.

You can't go wrong.

You will also notice that when you do this that the timing marks will be on 1&4 or 2&3.

Wow, that is helpful.  It turns out I was doing it a little wrong.  I need to check again after about 50 more km's anyways when I retorque my head bolts (post break-in), so this is helpful.

Here is what I cam up with
Cylinder 1 should be at position C or at 6 oclock on the Cylinder 4 exhaust notch
Cylinder 2 should be at position D or at 9 oclock on the Cylinder 4 exhaust notch
Cylinder 3 should be at position B or at 3 oclock on the Cylinder 4 exhaust notch
Cylinder 4 should be at position A or at 12 oclock on the Cylinder 4 exhaust notch

Here are the gaps in mm.

now question is hwo to get all of these in the .05mm gap range.  Still waiting on my shim tool, but once it comes in, can you swap shims around on the bike to get the right gap.  In other words can I pull shim from cylinder 4 exhaust and put it in cylinder 1 intake?  Not saying thats what I need to do just making an expample

If I put in CB900 cams I would then need to adjust shims to match the 900 cam correct?
