Valve adjustment/check dohc

80cb750ff
Does anyone have step by step instructions for checking the valve clearance on a dohc cb750?

Main question (sorry in advance because I'm brand new to bikes), is there a gasket I need to replace when I make the adjustment, or can I check the clearances without removing the cover.

Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum.  It appears this is your first visit, so I recommend you go to our home page, and download the Factory Service Manual (it's free!). It's very comprehensive, and should answer your questions about valve clearance and so forth.

Also, you can put "valve clearance" in the Search box on the front page.  There has been a lot of discussion about this.

Good luck, and keep us in the loop.

You have to remove the valve cover, but the gasket is reusable unless it's in bad shape.  I have heard of people still running the original one 30 years later.

Download the FSM from the front page of the site.  You should really get familiar with it.  At the very least the inspection/adjustment chapter and the addendum to that section for your year.

That said, here is a step by step video I made on how to do it.

Luke and Sees, thank you both very much for pointing me in the right direction.  I have downloaded the manual and will be using it a ton as I get this bad boy running as good as possible!

The video is extremely helpful!  I just ordered some new coils, and will be checking the valves when I replace the coils.

Thanks again.  Great forum, glad to be here!
