By "Automatic" carbs, I referring to the smaller version of the "Keyhole" carbs used on the Automatics, and the 77-78 CB 550. The rubber boots that go between the carbs, and head are smaller then the ones for the "K" and "F" carbs, and are no longer being made by anyone.
On the 76 Matic the throttle kick-up stays activated as long as the bike is in gear, and can be tested by watching the solenoid work while shifting the bike in, and out of gear while it is on the centerstand running. The 77-78 has the "Speed warning" unit, and it shuts off the idle kick-up when the bike hits a certain speed.
If I were you, I would find a 77-78 wiring harness. There is just too many other differences between the 76, and the 77-78 to make it worthwhile. The connectors are different at the hand controls, and the instruments.
