doch starting system gremlins.

mattwrx
I have a 79 dohc 750k. Had the damn thing running yesterday. then the right coil wasn't firing. today I verified that there was no spark from the coil. i then did what i did before. I took off the ignition pickups under the left crank cover and put it back on then i got spark. then i put the gas tank on and now neither coils are sparking. I have power at the coils  but not ground. getting real tired of this bikes shit right about now. any imput appreciated.

update. now right coil is not working but left coil is. bike fired up for a sec on 2 cylinders... still has power to both coils. i had tested the right one by putting the left coil connection wires on it and it fired so coils are good.

Sounds like a bad wire, or connection to the coils under the tank.

troubleshooting tip for the future:

If you have an intermittent electrical problem, an easy way to find it is to tap on the harness with a wooden dowel or drumstick.  Sometimes a little vibration can reveal where a problem might be.

I fixed a CB500 this way, and the owner thought I was some kind of genius.  Maybe he was right.
