what should i use to lube up my intake manifolds so i can get the carbs in further

Well you can wipe a little wd-40 on each one and that should help. Could also use a small amount of soap. If the rubbers re really hard, maybe see about saving up for new ones as you generally should not have to lube them if they are soft.

Being new, I think I might go for mild dish soap first then.

yes i put some dawn on them got one side in and then used a pry bar and pushed the other side in. now next ?. i want to put pods on the bike. how will this affect my jetting? can i just run the jets stock for a little while or do i need to change the pilots right away. and if so what new size do i need. btw this is a 80 750c

You will find that pods will be a bear to tune. They can be made to work but there is no 1 jet size that will for sure work. I don't know if you need to change the idle jets at all but the mains will probably need to start with 5 up. Say you have 110 stock, then probably try 115. You will still need to tune the idle mix as the mains do not come into play for a while in the rpm range.
Also, if you do get pods, get the k&n pods. The cheap ones just that, cheap. At least k&n have consistent build quality.

However, these bikes use vacuum carbs and so you may not be able to ever get the pods to work right.

I know on the sohc bike, you can get them to work fine but they deliver no more than the stock airbox does. I am not sure on the dohc.
