Shiny, I measured my bike's oil temperature, two-up, with full saddlebags, and trunk, riding 60 MPH, in 80 F ambient temperatures: it ran at 250 F, for 2+ hours, under these conditions. Dino oil breaks down into carbon sludge at temperatures over 250 F, so Honda designed these engines, to run at their very limit, thermally. If you run dino oil, you may want to switch to full synthetic, which doesn't break down into carbon sludge until 400 F...
Not sure about
Shell Rotella T6's breakdown temperature, as it is a highly refined dino oil, rather than a true synthetic, such as
Mobil 1, but it does everything else that a full synthetic does, for less money. Running the engine oil above 250 F will also cause deterioration of seals, and gaskets; running synthetic will prevent sludge build-up, and prevent your oil breaking down, but it won't help your seals and gaskets any, other than the additives they put in it, if any, to extend their life. Cheers!
