What is a good charger to get for my bike?

I have an el-cheapo trickle charger from Harbor Freight. I have had it about 5 years and used it regularly on my four wheelers with good results.I have been using it on my bike for the past few months and it seems to be doing well. Can't beat it for 10 bucks.

I cut the clamps of the trickle charger and put a weather pack connector in the end,made a harness to go to the battery terminals so I can plug it in every day since my seat is bolted down and I cannot just hinge it open to get to the battery.

There are many to choose from.  You can look at this site for reviews:

I would recommend a "smart" charger:  one with multiple modes, to slowly ramp up, top off, then actively monitor, and switch modes, as needed.  The unit I bought, for three bikes, was the Battery Tender Jr.  The Battery Tender Jr. comes with a permanent hook-up for the battery, allowing you to quick connect with a plug, after each ride, and for storage.

As for price, the Battery Tender Jr. can be found, on sale nearly always, somewhere, for around $28.  There are less expensive models out there.  Just be sure to find a unit with several modes, one which is microprocessor controlled.  They only work if used religiously, though, so if you do not plan to always hook up after each ride, you will not gain their full benefits.  Cheers!

Gunslinger,you say yours is like mine and does not work with a gel battery? Thats bad news.Mine is a lead-acid now,will replace it with a AGM later. How can you tell if it works with which type.Thanks

AGM battery's are not supposed to need trickle charging.

An agm is essentially a lead acid since it still uses lead acid, it is just absorbed. This is what prevents leakage and allows any position.
It is not a gel battery so any charger will work with it.
However, a trickle charger is not the best unlkess it has an auto shutoff to prevent overcharging and is capable of charging at 1 amp or less.

I use a vector smart charger. It was more than 10 but has worked excellent.

An AGM DOES require topping off every few months of storage. They do lose their charge, just at a much slower rate than a standard lead acid.

I knew thatthanks for the reminder! I know mine is a cheapy,but I have three of them that sat year round on three four wheelers. 5 years and no issues.They were all lead-acid batteries and would last about 2 1/2 - 3 years at a time,so I think it gets the job done.

I just looked at the your link and what you used is a float charger, so not technically a trickle. So you are using the right charger.
