I am sure it has been done but why chop something and have it turn out questionable? You can get shorty shocks and shorter tubes that will work as they are supposed to.

Can you point me in the right direction to find the shorter tubes?

Thanks

PS I am also having trouble finding shorter rear shocks if you have any idea where I can find those.

Well for forks, check here: http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/
You will need to email or call them but the do stock, over, and under lengths.
As for shocks, the sohc 750 had shocks almost 13 inches long. You can get shocks that are about 10 - 11 inches long or so online.

At the bottom of this page should be some 11 inchers.
