need chopper advice

Lachopperproject
Great site. I'm the owner of a new 750 chopper project. Im  New to the chopper game so if anyone has any advice it is very welcome. My objective with this bike is to tear down and redo. As far as the engine I don't want to totally rebuild but I am breaking down to make sure everything is within tolerances. Re hone and re ring and put back together. Bike has a springer front end but I would like to use something else. So if anyone knows of a good place or has anything let me know. I have lots of extras with this chopper. Rigid frame, rear wheel,so I can help someone else out to maybe. Thanks for any advice. Awesome site by the way.

Well before you tear down the engine, compression test it first with a tester that uses a small rigid line. Large rubber lines do not read properly on these smaller cylinders.
If compression is good, and no oil is being burned, I would leave it.

As for a chopper, it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to rake the front end? Do you want a rigid?
If you get longer forks, then you will want to do it right and cut the neck and reweld it to maintain a level frame. Otherwise, fuel does not flow right and steering is messed up. A rigid can be done with either welding a new rear end on OR you can get struts to replace the shock, which is much easier and allows you to see if a rigid is what you want.
I think there is a link here on "konging" a frame, this lowers the seating without lowering the bike.

It looks like some of this may be on the bike already but hard to tell from the small pic.

Well, got the top end of my engine off today. took off rocker arms and everything off of head and when I pulled the head off cylinders came off too . Have to separate them now.  I'll take any advice on the easiest way to do this. Gonna clean everything up get the cylinders checked and replace bearings and rings and put it back together. Hope I'm on the right track. I guess now would be a good time to look for a manuel for a 73 750.

First off, do you want to sell the springer? There are several websites that sell the extended fork tubes, but the one I recommend is CycleX.com There is also other forums that deal with CB 750 Choppers. Email me if you want and I will point you that way. I may have a complete front end that you can buy but the shipping costs may be too much depends on how far you live from me. Again, on another site that I go to, there are hundreds of members scattered through out the States that might be able to help you better than I could.

Look through our online parts list. A number of site carry parts such as these.

One of them should have what you need

You can do it. Most everything is pretty simple if you take your time and keep things organized. Toughest would be wiring and engine work which I would probably take in as I do not have boring tools and such.

trying to get some advice. I have my topend in 2 pieces. The head is stripped down. Got the vavles out. The guy i got the bike from seemed to think that the engine had been redone b4 he got it. Must have because the vavles are like new( except for carbon buildup) there is not one bit of slack in the guides and the seal rubber looks great. now that the vavles or out i want to sandblast the head but i want to leave the guides and the seals in when i do this. I'll be sandblasting my self. Any suggestions on how to go about this without screwing up my guides or seals??

This is strictly a guess, but I'd recommend a few layers of good quality masking tape over the spark plug holes and anywhere else sand would abrade.  Maybe some masking tape and bodywork paper over the inside of the head (where the valves and cam(s) are) and on the piston side.

A few layers of duct tape will do the trick. They use it to protect glass when sandblasting patterns in it.

I would try Cycle-one, or Cycle-x. Call them. They could point, you in the right direction.
