Hi I'm new here but not to CB's. My uncle had a new 81 CBX we rode when I was a kid plus I had a 2004 CBR600.
Anyway I have the chance to buy a 1982 CB750K with just under 9k original miles for about $1k.
It hasn't run in about 5 years but I think it just needs the carbs cleaned/serviced.
It's super clean and the guy is the second owner.
Is that a fair price or should I haggle more?

If it is in good condition it is well worth the price.

That bike is all original, looks like new, and you are debating about a $1K price? TOOLS

I just don't have a reference point, that's why I asked.
My research has only come up with modded bikes in the 2-4k range.
What have they been selling for in original condition?
I'm going to see it later this week.
thanks for the info.

Buy it! Looks like a mint bike.

Modded bikes are not worth as much as original bike unless they are exceptionally well done, or you are paying to have one built for you.

A wholesaler tried selling me that exact bike just last week.
Same color, year and model.
Rust in the tank.
Front caliper leaking.
Paint remover had crinked a spot on the tank and one side over.
Carbs most likely were bunked up.
No battery.
No air filter or filter box cover.
White pitting on the cases and side covers.
Oem pipes had a kind of wrap around patch on 2 of them where the rust out.
Had a sissy on it, and a windscreen went with it.
It was low miles, 7,200.
Def wasn't ridden a lot.
The blue looked killer.
Had the title, and the keys.
Wanted 1,200.00.
I offered 700.
He said no way.
I said ok.
The bike you're looking at, I'd say 2,500.
Kept original, and in good shape, the price can only go up.
Go on eBay, type in cb750.
The older sohc bikes, pre 79, good ones, 3 to 6k.
The dohcs, can still be had for 1k, 2k.
Just a matter of time till the cycle to turns it up for the double cams.

That's very reassuring thanks.

Yessir I was ready to pay the owner 1-1.2k but he said as long as I get it running and he could see it once in a while he'd take 500. He was the one who set the price I never mentioned it at all.
He works for a company that supplies ours and I do see him several times a year.
There's a little corrosion all over but nothing major.
The wheels do have some heavier rust.

Thanks
I put a new AGM battery in today and pleasantly found all the lights and turn signals work
The original complete toolkit and owners manual were also in the cubby.
I still have to drain the fuel from the tanks and carbs, fog the cylinders, change the oil, and check compression so I don't dare trying to start it yet.
I'll probably send the carbs to Mike at cb1100fcarbs.com for refurbishing.
Some questions on operation of the lights:
The brake light only comes on with the front lever not the rear pedal.
The front side running lights are constantly on and flash with the signal button but the rears only light up with the signals.
Are both of these normal situations?
Since I'm new to the current CB world and searching for as much info as I can I also found another forum CB750.com so I joined there too.

The rear brake light switch is probably bad, and the other lights are working as they are supposed to. As for the carbs, rebuild them yourself. There is a very good write up on here that explains in detail how to rebuild them.

$500 for that? I hate you. In my area, your $1000 price would have been low.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

I know I was very surprised when he told me the price.
The rear brake switch just needed to be adjusted a little.

Any recommendations on motor oil?
Conventional, synthetic, Honda brand, regular car oil?

I always use Havoline 10W-40. Cleanest oil I have ever seen, and I have taken a lot of engines apart.
