stripping anodized aluminum ????

shultz_1978
Hello all Just trying to find out if anyone knows a way to strip the black and gray anodize off  the bar contrals. I would like to just go with the polished aluminum look. But need to get the anodize off first.

I have tried polishing it off, but that take a long time.

Any help?
Simple if some one else can, why can't I

Anodizing is not just a decoration coating.
Anodizing actually strengthens the aluminum by making the surface very hard.
It is also more corrosion resistant.
It goes into the metal at least .010 thousandths.

Just paint OVER the anodizing.

Oven cleaner will strip it off.  They also sell a product made just for this, but what fun is that? If you use the oven cleaner it takes a while. Probably 10 min or more and you have to keep it saturated while you do it. When done it looms all black and splotchy. The "Burns "are superficial and clean off easily with a lillte steel wool. There's the cheap route. If you get the actual anodize remover (got ours from Eastwood) it literally tales seconds. Spray it on and watch the another slide right off.

All depends on the type and class.

Some are as a little as .0002" deep.
A buffing wheel and rouge may strip the colored anodize and polish the bare metal.

Thanks for the tips gentlemen. The oven cleaner is quick and easy. Then a little cleaning with steelwool and then to the buffing wheel with black emery. This is how the turn signal switch box looks. I will get the front master and kill and starter box to the same point. Then hit them all with brown tripoli, white diamond compounds on the buffer once and finish then up with mothers. Shinythings
