1973 CB 750

Gene
Got a 1973 CB 750 with a dragging front disc brake. I am really crampled for work space. Is it necessary to remove the wheel from the bike to remove te brake caliper. I would like to get the caliper rebuilt without putting the bike on a traier and taking the whole bike to the shop.

Alternatively, is there any way to get the brake pads and pistons to retract enough so they won't drag without removing the caliper.

You should be able to download a Factory Service manual from the home page of our forum.  That should give you excellent procedure on how to service the front brake(s).  It should be fairly simple to work on.

Good luck, and get back with us if you need more help.

Usually when the caliper sticks. It is because the master cylinder is not letting the pressure release. When it sticks. Loosen the bleeder. If the break frees up it is the master cylinder. If it does not it is the caliper. Most of the time it is just some dirt, or gunk in the little holes in the bottom of the reservoir. Just clean them with a small wire. Also you can reverse bleed them with a pump type oil can, and a small rubber tube. Hook the tube to the bleeder, and pump break fluid up to the reservoir.
