Re: history question ??

Piute
We all no that cars and bikes have # n letters just for model differences,
I gave my sister my ole cb650 and she told my other sister that "c b"stood for catching boys cause she suddently had lots of new friends that were boys
So I'd say my "C B" stands for " Cool Bike " and the "F" Fast (get time slip in spring)

They spelt out Super-Sport..

HAHA   Good one Piute!   I dont know either, always thought it was strange that a Japanese bike is labeled with english letters.........lost in translation??  Someone told me that the "F" model stand for "four into one exhaust"...beats me.Id love to have engine covers for my bike that are in japanese, not english,do they exist? That would be sweet and reeeeealy piss off my true - blue H.D. uncle

I read up on the history of these bikes, and the only comment was that Honda called their "CB" line their street models, while the "F", if I remember correctly, designated a sport model.  Sorry I can't be more specific -- read up on it a few months ago, did not make a whole lot of sense then, or now.  Cheers!

In 1964.  It stood for four-barrel carburetor, four-speed transmission, and dual exhaust.

In 1965,  442 stood for 400 cu in engine, 4 bbl carburetor, and dual exhaust now.

In 1968,  The 400 engine same until 1970.

In 1970, first 4 in 442 stood for 455 cu in now. The 4 bbl carburetor and dual exhaust remained.

In 1972, the 442 lost ?.

In 1985, it stood for 4 speed automatic, 4 bbl, dual exhaust.

In 1990, it stood for 4 cylinders, 4 valves and 2 camshafts
 easy I no that
