I've got a small camera.  I put it right against the entry and took photo.  Didn't know if it would work but what the heck.

Ok, got a clean, non-leaking tank but the petcock is plugged up.  Trying to remove it but the dang thing is stuck.  I did manage to get one bolt out but only after drenching it with PB Blaster.  The other bolt is starting to strip.  I am leaving it to soak overnite.  If it does not come out, any ideas?

My thinking is that whatever sticky stuff was in there plugged up the petcock.

Heat it up, and the bolt should come right out.

Worked as noted.  Got the usable petcock on and put the tank on the bike.  The tank works like a champ.  Thanks Shinyribs.  Started her up with no problems.  Don't know if it is normal or just because it has been sitting for 10yrs, it would not stay started with choke on.  I had to keep giving gas.  After about 5 minutes, still did not stay on.  I could start it without the choke but needed to give it a little gas and keep giving it gas but would not idle on its own.  About another 5 minutes and it seemed like it wanted to idle but then shut off.

I gave it a break for the night.  Think I will start her up daily just to 'condition' the engine and let it know that it is alive again.  There was some smoke (like burning oil type) coming from the outside of the left exhaust.  Seemed like it was burning off some of the rust.  Still did not hear any banging or unwanted sounds.  Sounds great.  I have to buy some tires for my other bike so $$$ stops on the project for now.  Will just clean her up and get familar with layout

Any feedback appreciated.

Your choke issue sounds pretty common. My $$ is on plugged/dirty idle jets. When you give your bike more gas it runs off the mains instead.
A good carb cleaning should probably take care of it (with some special attention given to those jets!)

Ok, I'm getting ready to sand the tank.  I have the orange tank with the black sides.  How do you peel off a 40yr old sticker?

Would just a plain old heat gun work?  Thanks
