Ha, they probably put them on because they wanted to make the bike louder so they took the baffles out, then it was probably too loud so they put whatever they had that would fit on the ends to tone them down.  I would say cut those baffles off and leave it as a 4 into 4 exhaust, and if it's too loud for you just find the diameter of the pipe and shove some of these glasspack inserts into them http://www.cb750supply.com/products/7/exhaust

I've found it hard to find the 4 into 4 pipes.  Don't really like the 4 into 1 even though it may lighten the bike.  I don't want it loud but do like a nice throaty sound.  So I may go with a Mac 4 into 2 system.  But yes, these are going.  They were not loud when I started it up.  If I can get that end off, I may just keep these and paint them black.

I tried uploading a video but file was too large.  Soooo, here is an mp3 file of it.

MVI_3276.mp3

it started right up (35 second mark) and stayed on for a bit then shut down.  It would not start again.  I will put it all back together once I get a tank and try again with a full tank.  The one I have keeps presenting new leaks.  Now its leaking around the seam.  I'm just going to buy a tank.....if I can find one that looks good.  So far no luck.

Finding a tank should not be hard. Shiny had two, for sale here a little while back. I also have one I might be persuaded to part with. Is your petcock on the right, or left?

The petcock is on the rightside.  I have seen plenty but they were pretty beat up or looked more rusted than mine was.  I saw the ones that Shiny had but one was not compatible and the other spoken for.

It did!  It lasted longer the first time I started it.  Don't know why it stopped.  Waiting for a replacement tank.  Once I clean and seal it, will mount it and try again.  Need to order new handlebars and clutch lever.  I will get this running good before I begin the esthetics.  Dark red frame, silver and black paint scheme.  I know, pretty common but it's what I like.

Urrrrgh, I send a PM to Tools by accident but the question is the same.  I was thinking about that.  It seems to be a common practice to just seal the tank.  Perhaps I'm not using the proper verbage.  By that I mean using POR15 or an equivalent.  The tank I'm getting seems to have a sticking gasoline residue.  A little cleaning is needed and if there is no rust does it really need to be treated with POR15?

I got the PM. No problem. It seems like everyone wants to coat their tank. I do not know why. If the tank has a hole, plug it. Use JB Weld, or weld it. If the tank is all eaten up, then throw it away! I have heard more horror stories about the coating coming off, and plugging things up then I have heard success stories of it.
If your tank has a sticky residue in, just clean it with a solvent. If it has some rust, clean it with muratic acid. Just be careful not to inhale the vapors.

Like Shiny said, no rust just that sticky residue.  I kinda agree with you after trying to save the original tank.  Easier and cheaper to just get another tank....at least in this case.

I'm with Tools. I really dont see the need to coat a tank. Clean it,yes-but not coat it. I think the reason you hear some much about this on bikes is where people park them for long periods of time. If you fill it to the brim with gas when you store it through the winter it'll do the same thing. Gasoline is the best thing to preserve a gas tank,if you think about it.

1- It won't let it rust &
2- You know how it will react to...gas!

I have a 48 Oldsmobile and a 66 Impala. Both have their original tanks and are spotless inside.Keep 'em full.

Sorry for the book, just tired of seeing people spend hard earned money on coatings, just to have them dissolve later. Ya really dont need it. Oh,and with POR15 being oil based-looks like that stuff would just straight off as soon as gas hits is.I dunno, thats just me.

I found a really cool way to clean a tank. If you not to hold  hold the cussing against me (crazy site)I'll post the link

I used stright Lime Away in my tank after trying other stuff and it realy did a great job.  Also throw a heavy chain in there  to scrub the rust and whatever else there is in the tank.

Good luck!

This post was updated on .
Got the inside cleaned up as good as it is going to get.  Pretty much the whole inside is clean with the exception of a few spots mostly on the hump.

Before:

After:

Letting the tank dry overnight and then will test again for any leaks.

I first used Lime Away but that did not seem to do much.  I then turned to CLR.  That worked better.  It softened up the sticky stuff.  I did a second batch and scrubbed the neck.  Results are as you see.  Thanks Shinyribs.
