Slow,

I'm liking the build.  Good job.  Can I ask one questions, where did you get the tank in the second picture of your first post?  Also if the most recent pick of the bike show the original tank re done, you did a great job, hell if not your doing a nice job with the whole build.  Thanks for showing the progress.

Thanks guys!! Im waiting on my brake lines to come in and Ive still got to cover my seat but after that Im just gonna ride it....its not done by any means yet but its at a good safe stopping point and Im gonna enjoy it for awhile before I tear into it again......*exhaust, rebuild and sync carbs, pc the frame, wheel bearings, paint wheels, new chain, paint engine, rearsets, pods, repaint tank w/ automotive grade paint (spray paint isnt holding up as good as Id like, but will do for now), clean-up battery box...etc.....but like I said Im just gonna ride it for now!

Jefe, I got two tanks with the bile when I bought it. The black one in the first picture was the original but it had a HUGE dent on the left side so the prev. owner threw in an extra one. They are both stock tanks and my ocd got the best of me while refinishing it  Thanks for the good words!

Got my new brake lines from Slingshot Cycle in friday and installed them on saturday and covered my seat yesterday. Buttoned up a few odds and ends and rode off into the sunset!!!!!! This thing rides grrrrreat! I was having a problem fouling out my NGK D8EA plugs...after my third set I decided to try a hotter set and threw in a set of D7EAs and it runs like a champ! I have acquired ass loads of info from this forum and I want to thank everyone for helping me out! I never wouldve gotten this far with my bike without this forum. You guys rock!

But enough of the jibber jabber heres some pics......

the frame hoop welded up and ready for paint

now painted and ready for some glass work!

and it begins..... Process was a little time consuming and the fumes were overwhelming lol, but it worked great and came out exactly how I wanted it!

rough shape is done...later down the road I plan to add a removable cowl but for now this will work

cleaned up the edges and now just to get it covered in something

and without further ado...the "finished"...for now Plaid Mandingo cafe racer!

annnd here we goooooooooooo! The Plaid Mandingo's maiden voyage

First cafe for the cafe racer!!

Nice before and after shot

I absolutely love this bike!  Great power and one of a kind style, its been nice getting reaction out of hardcore harley guys, everyone seems to dig it and are excited to see something different on the road...its hard to believe that after all the aggravation Ive run into with this bike, its actually road ready and legal!!

So to anyone who is in that position with their project right now just stay positive or step away for a bit, i did this a lot!? It helped to take a break and reassess. It takes time and patience on any project and all the headaches are well worth it once you take that first ride! You also forget entirely about the little details you havent finished and you just enjoy the ride!

Granted my bike, in my eyes, is nowhere near completion and probably never will be but I could be beating myself up and trying to perfect every detail before I take it out, but if you try to make something "show room" perfect you are unable to enjoy it for what it is....so build it and ride the piss out of it!!!

Ha, you definately need one of those, awesome bike, love it, actually making me re-consider things with my bike... Do you plan on keeping those pipes on it or swapping to a 4-1 exhaust?

THANKS GUYS!!!! so far ive put 50 miles on it and everythings running great, theres a slight tick in the case that i didnt notice before. Im hoping it just valve adjustment or too thin oil?? Any thoughts?

Hellbilly, I plan on running a 4-1 later down the road. The pipes I have are nice I like the looks and sound of the 4-1.

Was just wondering about the pipes cause those sure are clean, and wasn't sure if you just liked the sound of those better than the 4-1.

Have you adjusted the timing chain at all? I know mine ticks when it's cold, but goes away when it's warmed up.
