Finally got around to getting a current picture of my bike, its still a project but wanted to post its current state. Im kinda going for a cross/imbred mix of cafe, chopper, streetfighter, crotch rocket style, I love bikes and all the different styles, and these bikes can be fitted to all tastes. So Im just gonna mix it all up and see what I come up with?? This weekend im gonna weld up my emblem holes and paint the tank, Im thinking a satin olive green or white? Not sure yet...any suggestions? I like mine with no shine! lol Let me know what you guys think so far, also need some name suggestions for the build, so hit me! Thinking "The Mutt", "Identity Crisis", "Skitzo"..........i have no idea?? haha
When I first got the bike:

No idea of a name, for, you, but use JB Weld on the screw holes. Then, you won't warp the sheet metal.

How about slow and ugly? just pickin'. Looks good man! I'm with Tolls on the JB weld. These tanks are SUPER thin.I'd definitely just use JB Weld or some kind of epoxy. You never know, you may wish you had those holes later on.
|
|
hahaha damn it was right in front of my face the whole time! Will the JB weld work on filling a hole through the tank? When I drilled the spot weld on the brackets the drill slipped and went straight through the tank ....and can I use it to fill in the entire void instead of bondo??

I have used it to fill holes in several tanks, and even radiators. I doubt it will sand down very easy though. I always grind it down a little, and go over it with Bondo.

When I pulled the badges off of my Suzuki tank gas started coming out one screw was a touch long. I smashed some JB Weld on it,dirty, with fuel still coming out, just to slow it long enough to get the tank drained. Never got around to fixing it yet....that was about 2500 miles ago.No leaks!

haha nice! So what youre saying is....itll work for a day or two???? right? lol

Hey Tools and Shiny, do yall know if the jb weld will hold up to the kreem lining kit? My tanks got a decent amount of rust in it and I was planning on using the complete kit they offer. Im not so much worried about the liner as I am about the rust neutralizer in the kit. Should I wait to jb weld it after I seal or do yall think it would matter?

Clean then JB Weld, and lastly seal.
I got two sets of brackets. I got a set of the med weight straight chrome ones, for the former Toolbagger, and a set of light weight black ones, for the Buffet Racer (Death Grip).

Grind around it real good ,I used the pointed part of a file(part that slips in handle to scatch up around / under the plate and scew area ,your going to have to build it up and shape it Or smash it in ,just causing more filler, hole thru ?Fiberglass*(must dry for 3 days at 60+ deg.) then fill with filler.
I just used filler ,To cover mine, some day may wont stock and can pick and burn it out.

Well heres an update on my bike, got the new tank mounted....and I think it turned out killer! what do you guys think?? haha i got all my wires tied up and didnt have my tank so i rigged this one up so i could start it. It hasnt been started in a little over a month and all i did was pump the throttle a few times and choked it and it started right up!!! i couldnt believe it, it sputtered for a few seconds then cleared up and purred like a kitten. man i love this bike!! Ill get a few more pictures up when i get some more progress and get my garage/patio cleaned up!? haha damn apartments!

I'm really diggin' that tank. It's a keeper Progress feels so good. All you guys getting yours fired up for the first time is making me so jealous.Man,I need another project. You'll be riding before ya know it

im not gonna lie....the thought crossed my mind to strap it to the bike and ride it around, but i realized maybe i was getting a little too antsy?? right now im working on shaving the emblems and painting the tank, so when I get it all done ill post more pics
|
|
So I started sanding down my tank, which was given to me with the bike in primer, and I noticed that the p.o primered over everything. After sanding it revealed the old stripes and the original color, silver and bondo lol. Now maybe Ive been inhaling too much sanding dust but Im gonna go out on a limb and see what yall think...should I leave it the way it is with the patina look, Ive always had a fancy for street rods with the sanded down patina look, or continue sanding and actually paint this thing a solid color? Granted, I know its hard to tell what it looks like without it being on the bike but just humor me.
