Thanks. Just is frustrating when you want to go out and ride, and can't because you know, deep down, the bike's not safe and you can't find someone reliable to work on it. Even people my friends down here with bikes are recommending aren't returning text messages and such.

I thought the economy was still bad? Must be nice for people not to have to get people like myself ready to drop some cash on 'em's business.

Bosco, I wasn't trying to give you a hard time either. I was just imagining some nasty bike with bugs and grease built up around the plugs, old ass brittle wires that fall apart when you touch them, etc. The kind of crap that you get blamed for breaking when someone else brings you junk to work on.

Craig,I know this is extremely late, but I was just looking at the DOHC FSM and noticed that stock gearing on your bike is 15/38 What sprockets did you end up getting? Could be the cure to your high rpm woes.

I would have to look again but its not quite the same due to being 530 vs 630. Im not in a bad gear, within around 100 of what I planned. Im worried about the gas mileage.

Arghhh. I never knew people would be bitchy as hell about simply refreshing an ad on CL that says "I need a bike mechanic"

Meh, I only talk about revenge. I don't really ever commit it. But planning it is fun!

I'm going to take the bike out again today for a short ride, on a windy yet slow road, with minimal/no traffic. I'm going to see if it still wants to kick out, or if it was just that day. I also keep forgetting to check the date stamp on the tire, so I'm going to do that as well.

In the middle of trying to find somewhere else to go; we'll see if anything comes of it. I WANT to find somewhere with a garage; we'll see how that one goes...

So, here's the date code. Damn thing's brand new. However, the tire is 'cupping' per my dad - I can feel bumps in the middle of the tire. Per my dad, that's likely why it kicked out from under me on the highway.

Well, time for a new tire!

Well that sucks! Strange that a tire that new is cupped already. It must have been out of balance and skipping to cup. Do you notice any jouncing in the bars?

Re: 1981 CB750K - Repair/Tune-up

None. Would it be bouncing 'em though since this is the rear tire?

I should probably have the front balanced too so I know that one's good. If the rear one's due to not being balanced, and the previous owner had both tires put on...

What a mess.

Didn't, you say, you were running the tire low on pressure, for awhile? That will make a tire cup, and once it starts it just keeps going. However, you should always have the tires balanced.

Re: 1981 CB750K - Repair/Tune-up

I ran it low for a couple hundred miles at best. MAYBE 500 miles, if it was low when I bought it. And, I'm sure it dropped pressure between purchase and filling when it was at 30 psi. And that is a high estimation. Probably closer to 300 miles.

Is that enough to kill a tire?

My bad. No,the rear tire shouldn't directly affect the bars. I was thinking front tire for some reason. 30 pounds is not super low,but it is low. I wouldnt think one could cup in 500 or less miles. You never can tell though.

I'm going to contact the tire manufacturer; perhaps something was up in their manufacturing process? The tire's still got nubs from the injection process!

I was going to today, but had to check out a house for rent, had a security meeting... I hate being busy. :/

I'll e-mail 'em tomorrow.

Re: 1981 CB750K - Repair/Tune-up

Might have missed it if you already said, but what brand is the tire? If it's a cheapo tire, I could see it going bad earlier than you think it should.

In case you're interested... I've got a couple tires off some rims I sold a couple months back. My fiancee is going to be in GR a week from tomorrow (6/15); I could send them with her, and you could meet up and see if you'd want them. Price: whatever you think is fair/you can afford right now.

They're 5-6 years old, but have been in my (temp controlled) garage, out of the light, since I got them with the parts bike in '06 or '07. I was kind of careless with the tire irons on the front, and it's got a couple bite marks from the irons. The back is good though. Can't remember the brand offhand, but I want to say Dunlop. Let me know if you'd want to take a look at them.

Okay.

So just got back from a 6-mile ride. I've got a car meet I'm going to Saturday that's 30 miles away, wanted to ride out. Well, instead I will be taking my truck.

The bike, after a bit, felt like I was riding on ice. Even when I wasn't leaning it, she still kept wanting to slide around. I didn't dare to lean into it, though honestly it probably would have been okay. I'm betting that if I get the tire on sidewall, the tire will be fine. But I'm not going to try. I don't feel like going down willingly.

I don't know if it's just me, or the tire is seriously dangerous. I can definitely feel bumps in the center tread. Can't tell on the sides, since the tread's brand-new and catches your hand.

Details on the tire:
Shinko SR712R 130/90-17 68H. Still practically brand-new. The tire still has nubs on the side, and I don't mean just down low! The tread is quite deep.

I've already looked the Shinko USA dealer site over, and apparently you can only get a warranty from wherever you bought it. I'm going to e-mail them anyways, but have a feeling it's going to go nowhere. They'll probably bow out under "Only original purchaser!" and "Only sold-through dealer!" Maybe I'll get lucky regardless.

Thanks for the offer for the tire btw, but I'll pass. I'm not wanting to try a super-old tire, and 5+ is getting there. Also, come next check next week I can afford whatever I need. Just need to get there first. Until then, bike is officially parked. :/

Still need to find a garage, too. That's also starting to piss me off.

Not entirely certain as to how to do that. They are rusty though.

What will the spokes have to do with the bike feeling like its on ice? Or the tire being bumpy?
