2.5 mini speedo with indicators install DOHC

clintwillis
I have a 79 cb750k

I am having a lot of trouble finding the wiring diagram for the 2.5 mini speedo with indicators ... you can get it on dime city and I know a lot of people have this.

If ANYBODY can help me and point me in the right direction or give me some instruction on wiring it to the OEM electrical connector that would be great.

thanks

Look up drag specialties 2.5 Speedo with indicator wiring diagram...you will need resistor to splice between the turn signals because there's only one indicator light...ive got the diagram somewhere, ill try to find it.

Just download the factory service manual from the home page here, and look at the factory wiring diagram. Find the wires that went to the stock lights, and connect them to the new indicator lights. Also, you will not need a resistor. That has been taken care of in the stock turn signal switch.

Thanks a lot tools, the downloaded manual is so hard to see but I am working on it.

Am I able to just wire together all the grounds from the mini speedo and tie it into the factory ground?

It should only have one ground. However it could be tied into the factory ground wire, or just run to a ground.

I think there is a ground for every indicator?  All the -'s represent grounds am I correct?

Thanks for the help guys haha I spent hours trying to figure this out before asking.

Got the wiring diagram from DCC.

Some of the indicator lights look like the negative ends are wired back into the connector.

Am I correct on that?

Any negative (-) wire, is 'ground', on the bike.  The negative (-) terminal on the battery, is connected to the chassis, which is dubbed, 'ground'.  Yes, you can bundle all negative (-) wires, and then connect them to the chassis, or another ground wire (every connector introduces resistance, so connecting the bundle to the chassis, is the better option, introducing less resistance, but it is negligible, most of the time -- soldering is recommended, over wire nuts, and twisting the wires together and covering them with tape).  Cheers!

Re: 2.5 mini speedo with indicators install DOHC

Thanks a lot.  I see on the stock diagram though that the positive ends of the oil light and the neutral light are receiving power from the same wire so should I wire both those wires together?

I also see that the negative ends seem to serve a purpose in and have their own connecting wires to the unit instead of actually just being ground into the green wire like most ...

I drew up this shitty diagram however I am not sure if I am right ... I have friends who have installed this speedo on pre DOHC cb750's and it was a LOT easier.  I can seem to get it to work properly.

This post was updated on .
little bit too small earlier.

Guess I should wire the green normally which grounds most to the + end of the speedo back light and then the negative ends to the green and white striped one which I have going into the + end now?

Shit is confusing im pretty new to electrical

This is the second diagram if I follow it more factory like i guess. I connected the green wire even though it seems to be grounding a lot of other wires to the + end of the back light, assuming this has something to do with high beams being on?

thanks for the help fellas

if anybody is ever curious about the 2.5 inch speedo and using it with a 79-82 DOHC CB750 here is an image that solves the problem.

 Interesting.

Any pics of your bike and gauge cluster?  I will probably end up doing  this kind of work.  First got to get the front suspension components (getting RaceTech components fo the front fork) and after my wallet flattens I will start pilling up the pennies until I can get in shape to spend some more. But for sure it is in the plan.

No pics my bike is still a work in progress and in pieces.  I have the aluminium bracket dime city sells and the mini speedo with indicators and mini tachometer.  I polished the bracket up nice though.  I am not using the oil light for the switch because of installing the mechanical gauge.  Might use a rear brake light indicator
