We still do, If you drill at the end of a crack it gives you a good access point to inject resin.  It also creates a round edge for the crack to end at.

HAHA  that was good Piute!   Daddyman,a friend of mine is going to paint my impala this winter.I told him i would like to pull the windshield and rear glass out to clean and paint the channels real good.He said the rear glass was no problem, but that the windshields hardly ever go back in w/out cracking. Not that i doubt him,but that just doesn't sound right.Piute, your a body man you probably know all about this too.Is it doable,or do i need to replace the windshield? Thanks

doable,or do i need to replace the windshield?
Very Do-able,what year ? be extra carefull taking off chrome moldings ,USE PLASTIC puddy knifes when ever possible (not to chip glass)Chips even scatches cause them to break when you push, pull, twist n shout..l.o.l.clean outside with blade to see or notice old blemishes,I've taken some out that had so much goop n $h!^ on them used a wire saw all the way around,IF so need a person on both sides, one on inside need to push at same time, they make a tool but will have the glasss 3/4 out by the time you work it through. There are plenty of ways ever-one is a little diff....Piute...My 2 cents Worth..wont change..

If your planing on replacing the gasket with a new one you can cut the gasket from the inside along the pinch weld.  Their is no way you will hurt the glass that way, and also this prevents you from bending the chrome metal trim.  If you bend those its a pain to get back together.

Its actually hard to break the glass unless it has a chip or defect in it,  You wont have any problem saving that glass.
