Ok, so I order a 90 link chain,when I need 94 links.
Maybe I can get a 94 link chain that isn't riveted together? Fish it in place then press the chain together. Bad idea?

Why didn't you just get this 120 link chain from Cycle-X? http://honda-cb750-s.456789.n3.nabble.com/template/NamlServlet.jtp?macro=reply&node=4055017 $ 89.00 # CS-003.

Is it hung up on the adjuster? Off the bottom sprocket?

Well, this is great news. My nickels showed up so I started assembling the valve train. Only to find out that MY CAM CHAIN IS TOO SHORT!!! So not cool. I ordered a heavy duty one for this. I think it came from vintage. Not sure what's up really. Looks like I'll be opening these cases... again...

It's turning when i turn the crank nut, so it's on the crank gear. I was extra careful and triple checked it was routed through the tension wheels correctly.
I just bought a chain that is 4 links too short.

If I use one of these chains I can fish it in place then rivet it. If I fail and lose it in the engine, well, what have I lost, really?
So Daido or Tsubaki? Pay for HD or save $10 on a perfectly adequate chain?

Stupid cam chain.....
Anyway, made some bobbins so I can sit it on the stands. So nice working on a stable bike.
Shot of the chain guard.
And I'm digging the Super Sport fender.Might go this route. Makes more sense then the hi fender, which I'm not sure is really suitable for interstate speeds.

That is a nice chain guard, but I think it would look better if the rear curved down.

I started forming a curve for the end, but it didn't look right. It just make it look big and bulky. Much less noticeable this way. I still feel I want to put a curve on,though. So i might revisit it one a rainy day.

Not sure why, but this was the most nerve-wrecking thing I've ever done inside an engine. In the end, it really wasn't so bad.
If you recall, I put the wrong timing chain in this engine. My (correct length) replacement came in so I went to work.
Tied each end of the chain off to the frame for safety. Really didn't want to have to open this engine again.
Temporarily spliced the new chain to the old chain to thread it through the engine. Repurposed cotter pin.
Sorry for the dark pics, but you can see the definite difference between the el-cheapo chain I was using compared to the Tsubaki in there now.
Pressed back together. Success!

Both stock cam gears, but I wanted to weigh the difference. 88.3 grams vs 135.9 grams. Quite a difference in weight!
So the top end is finally together. The DOHC bucket & shim blahblah might be superior, but it definitely isn't as beautiful as this valvetrain setup.

Picture-less update. Just keeping up with the tab.
I did mount the oil pump, oil pan, right hand exhaust. Also timed the cam and set the valves. Still need a front brake lever, then I'll bleed all of the fluid systems.
Need to pick up a matching speedo and get cracking on gauge mounts. Here's my donated tach.
Current tab $1,566
oil pump dowels 6
cam chain 33
tach 0 --------------------------
New tab $1,605

Hey Truck. Those are for my DOHC and I haven't done much with them at all. Rest assured, when the time comes there will definitely be an update. I'm pretty anxious to see what happens with them.

Spontaneous inspiration struck today. I was walking around in the shop and finally had enough of the gigantor rear disc on this bike. Every time I look at the bike my eye is instantly drawn to it.
76 F disc vs F2. 6 pounds (remember, it's already been lightened 1.4 (?) pounds! ) vs 1.8 pounds. And my scrap disc of ally which will become the adapter. And the F2 caliper assy that will go on should be a fair amount lighter as well.
Ended up using only four of the original 6 mounting holes to bolt the adapater to the hub, but at 0.560'' thick I don't think adapter flex will bee an issue.
That looks sooo much better. Can't wait to see it on the bike! I'm snowed in for a few days, so new wheel spacer, caliper mount modification (will make sense tomorrow) and brake stay is on the menu for tomorrow.

WooHoo! Rear brakes are all F2 now.
Trimmed the caliper mount. Off a '96 CBR600
The mount on the swingarm for the brake stay was a real sloppy fit for a 10mm bolt. Ended up turning a 5/8'' bolt down to fit how I wanted. 10.7mm for the s-arm mount, then down to 3/8'' to use heim joints I had on hand.
Brake stay is a solid piece of ally round stock turned, tapped, wrench flats cut and trimmed a little fat outta the middle. Doesn't really save any real weight, but it looked real fat and bulky before.
I can actually see my hub again! Eveything is bled and feels good. Using a 1/2'' mc out back vs the stock 14mm CBR. Same setup as my '80 and it feels nice. I think the 14mm makes the rear brake too grabby. Just incase someone else wants to go this route.

Good cure for wimpy carb boot clamps. I can lose a few and still have enough for two bikes.

I know those clamps well, and they are WIDE. I doubt that they will fit very well. Especially on 2 and 3.
