Made a little progress tonight.

Loaded the stator and field coil in to their cover. Tools sent me a really nice shifter cover that I proceeded to shave down.  Thanks buddy. So I finally got this side of the engine closed up.

Ignition advancer, points plate and cover on.

Went to put the clutch in but my hub has some pretty serious dents. I need to dress those down for smooth clutch action. Also, my lifter plate was broken, so Tools is fixing me up on that, too.

Put the bearings in for the pushrod on the clutch slave cylinder. Was really wanting to mount this tonight. Looking forward to getting my clutch in.

Shared a some intimate time with my clutch hub tonight.

Drilled the hub for increased oil flow. Allows the oil to drain away quicker. The clutch will both engage and disengage quicker this way. Smoother shifting and easier to find neutral. I did this to both of my other SOHC's. It does make a difference.

Stock oil drain holes.

Three per pocket, when viewed at this angle.

After drilling. You can see the pattern is a more continuous zig-zag than before. larger holes, too.

Six holes per pocket now.

Dents on the faces filed and sanded. Red arrows are dents from the clutch steel banging in to the hub. Blue arrow is a repaired hub facet. Green arrow is pointing to an extra gap in the dent pattern. More on that HERE if you care to read. It's due to the double steel plate, which I fully intend to trashcan!

And after glass bead blasting. Flat, smooth faces. All ready for smooth clutch action. The dents will cause the plates to get ''hung'' and the clutch won't want to disengage properly. This makes it like new again. Honestly, I did this to the WB and the chopper. It works. And it is worth the effort.

Almost too pretty to hide inside the cases.  I'm half tempted to hang it on the wall.

That looks good. Maybe I should do it to my clutch hub. Oh hold it, I don't have a clutch hub.
Hopefully I will get some parts in the mail to you Mon-Tue.

Hoko, if it has steel plates and an aluminum hub, then yes, it will eventually have this problem. And all CB's do. My buddy that drag races a 2008 GSXR has this problem a lot. He replaces his hub often. We really don't have that option, to just go buy a new one. But why would we?? Don't replace it, repair it. :)

Made the retaining washer for the primary sprocket. Lost the pic of it on the bike, but you get the idea.

Made up my oil lines. They kinda ended up showing out from behind the side cover, but oh well. It'll do.

Drilled and tapped my head light bucket bolt to accept my stem-mounted turn signals. Wires hide nicely inside the headlight bucket this way.

And I'm not happy with the ride height at the moment. I'd like to bring to back up about 2''. Not sure what to do just yet.

That was my first thought, too. But these dog bones are offset, so not as simple as slicing up some AL plate.

I looked at the bottom shock clevis and found this. Ground off the staking and it threaded right off.

Split the clevis from it's base plate. Blasted off the coating. Cut a piece of leftover roll cage tubing. DOM mild steel EWS, for whom it may concern.

Welded my extension to the plate, threaded it back on and add a tack weld.

Slowly welded the clevis back on,being careful not to overheat the shock. Paint and done. :)

Bike sits great now! Rear tire is 6'' from the oil tank. Bottom of the frame tube is 12'' from the ground.  35.5'' seat height feels great. Puts the rake at 26-27*. Veryhappy with this. Sidestand is waaaay too short now.  Notice all the blocks under it.

My chain got here a few days ago, and my lifter plate from Tools showed up today.

So the hydraulic clutch is finally mounted on the bike.  I need to bleed the clutch, but it says it calls for mineral oil, and I have no idea where to shop for that. Honestly, I'm not really sure what mineral oil even is. I made a cover for this that mounted to the three posts like the factory cover does, but I'll be John Brown if I can find it.

Mineral oil, not mineral spirits.

I did some reading on this. Lots of guys are substituting baby oil, fork oil, atf , jack oil, power steering fluid... Basically, as long as it's not vegetable or fat based oils, which will go rancid, it will work. And if you keep with a thin viscosity it won't make the clutch pull heavy or slow. I'll probably go with fork oil since it's very resistant to foaming. And I already have some. :)
