Yeah, the oil pressure gauge is basically just to see what happens. You know, in case the whole system is just restrictive or not circulating properly. I just want to be able to watch the pressure on start up, and once up tomp, see how it does at sustained speeds. Simply a peace of mind thing, not something I'm worried about monitoring constantly.

In other news, the side stand is now 4" longer and has a couple nifty little bends in it. Tucks away nicely.

Phone was being stubborn before. No pic of it on the bike, but I'm sure that will show up later.  These things are DANG HARD! I knew right away it wasn't going to accept weld very well. After heating it with the torch it flowed well.

P.S. Are you going to harden that piece of rod that you put in the kickstand?
P.S.S. If you had ordered them from Cycle-X, you would have had them in 2-3 days. Their shipping is FAST.

I didn't see them individually at cycle x at first, so I ordered them from vintage, which is always slow.

And that solid stock was super hard, thus the need to heat it before it would take weld. Do you think it is necessary?

Are you saying that it was harder then the kickstand? Kickstands take a lot of leverage, and you just added a bunch more to it by extending it. I would heat it up, and quench it in oil.

No, it wasn't as hard as the stand was, but nearly. Im not sure exactly what it is, but it's not mild steel. Either way, after being welded, is probably a good idea to re-harden it.

I think the oil pump is going to be just fine. There are a couple spots on the pump vane gears that could use a little polishing, but everything moves smoothly and seems tight. After an overnight soak in paint thinner I'll check the specs against the FSM.

Aluminum soup, tasty. Do you have a plan to clean up that sprocket cover?

Yes and no. Yes, because I do have a plan. No, because I've lost my contour gauge. And I'm too lazy to work without one. I had planned to weld a flat plate on the face of it. If that makes sense. Just straight down to the case. I actually windowed it with plexiglass once, but lost the piece. Probably a bad idea anyway.

That side stand is so un-exciting to look at, but it's one of those things I was really pleased with. lol. I know it's simple, but I just love how the foot sits perfectly on the floor.

I need to get back on the taper tool, but maybe I'll work on the sprocket cover some, too.

I have been planning on removing the bearings from the hubs, and bead blasting them, but things just keep getting in the way. Like...

Play stove for Freddie Freeloader

Repair, and reinforce cracked frame, and make chain guard for Cool motorized bike.

And the list just keeps getting longer, and longer, and...

Thanks for the compliment on the stove. Those knobs, and handle were not cheap, but when I saw them at the hardware store I knew I had to use them. Freddie kike to went nuts when she found it under the tree. Next year I guess Santa will have to build a sink to go with it.
That red bike belongs a friend. I met him at a bike show, and now he has me work on his bikes. He also has a really, and I mean really cool CB 550 bobber. It has a one into four manifold with a S&S carb, and a four into one exhaust that comes down the right side of the bike, and has a flame thrower in it. However on the red bike, I hate to imagine the $$$ he has in it. The tank was custom made into the frame, and the engine drives through a jackshaft to the crank, and then to the rear wheel. I had to go to a bicycle shop and get special TOOLS to work on it. They told me it had a very expensive freewheeling device on the crank, and an even more expensive rear hub that has infinitely variable speeds. I understand that it will go 55 MPH. He also has a little trailer that he pulls with it that his two Dotsons ride in. I had to repair the frame because it cracked at the crank. The way it drives through the crank was just too much for that aluminum frame.

Sprocket cover and chain guard are done. Well, they are drying, at least. Im pretty happy with the chain guard. Nice and solid despite the minimal mounting points. Full coverage all the way to the sprocket cover.

Well, this is great news. My nickels showed up so I started assembling the valve train. Only to find out that MY CAM CHAIN IS TOO SHORT!!! So not cool. I ordered a heavy duty one for this. I think it came from vintage. Not sure what's up really. Looks like I'll be opening these cases... again...
