I have an '82 CB750 SC and I wanted to repaint the engine with high temp black paint. I have read some things about possible overheating with painting the engine. Is there really that much of a risk if a light coat is applied?
I would say no. That engine is painted from the factory anyway - or at least portions of it are. As long as you have the proper air flow over the cooling fins you should still see adequate heat dissipation. Now if you're sitting at stop lights in 90-100 degree heat then yes it will probably overheat, but it would anyway. I have the same year 750 by the way.
What? Hey? Dude? Running the engine lean or sitting for a long time at idle will run it hot. Paint the engine and look good. There alot of things you can do to distroy a good engine like rapping the throttle open in nutral to impress on lookers. Paint the engine but dont paint the polished allum parts. Try simichrome polish on those.
I have a '78 K (just got it) and it looks like someone painted the engine silver. Now that areas of the engine are peeling off I want get the paint off and polish the aluminum. Should I just use stripper on it? I thought about repainting the areas but doubt I could get a smooth finish without getting the old off first anyway. This is going to be a big job with all the little nooks and crannies.
Jet hot is meant to hold heat IN. Great for headers...Not so great for cylinders that need to shed the heat. That being said silver coating would be sweet.
