Hey all. Just picked up a 1975 hard tail cb750 frame, fender, tank and a few other odds and ends to start a project. I will be looking to you guys for a lot of help. I have owned about every brand of bike but this is my first CB750. I am really excited about the build. Any tips right off the bat. My first question would be what is the latest year engine I could slap in this thing as I gotta start looking for one. Thanks in advance for any help.
Got the tank semi mocked up and hung the oil bag to see where I wanted it. I am going to ditch this fender cause I don't like the look. I want something that fits the radius of the tire better.
Picked up a donor bike today. 1972 CB750 with 30,000 miles. Got it for a cool $250.00 bucks! Has an electrical problem and not getting spark. Hopefully have it running tomorrow.
Get it running, paint the frame, finish the tank and then on the road!
That is exactly what I am planning Re-Run! Only it will be in a cool black frame. Everyone knows it is a scientific fact that black is faster! My mechanic friend is coming over tomorrow to get her running. Frame goes to powder coat next week and hopefully I should have her on the road in a few weeks.
The guy I bought the donor bike from said he couldn't get spark. Finally got it to spark. Cleaned the carbs and she fired over. Just need to adjust them to keep her running. More tomorrow!
More done! Got the engine out! What an unholy PIA that was! Was hoping to get the engine clean and heads off to start painting but ran out of energy. A little at a time.
Yea, when we fired it up it smoked a little. It had been sitting for years and the guy I got it from couldn't get it running. So I am ordering rings and top end gaskets this week. I have a four day weekend coming up so I hope to have it all back together soon.
Okay, gotta little behind. Worked overtime all last weekend to pay for some new bike stuff. Spent today stripping the ugly white paint off and sandblasting the frame. Gotta little more to do tomorrow then find a powder coater. Hopefully I can get it done this week.
Frame went to powder coater yesterday. I sandblasted it myself so they guy is going to do it for $100.00. My jaw hit the floor when he said it was only that much. Can't wait to see how it turns out!
Thanks Re-run. I have titled this build "Project Cheap Skate" so I am using as much from the roller and donor bike as possible. Most places quoted me around $200.00 for just the powder coating.
Okay, got a few more parts cleaned and coated. Waiting for my frame to come back from the powder coater. Took the day off tomorrow to take my helper to Hershey Park. Ordered my rings and other stuff to finish the top end. Getting closer!
Ordered my parts for the top end rebuild and still waiting for them to arrive. Frame is still at the powder coaters. So with nothing to do I decided to do a little polishing. Turning out pretty good. Even with a power tool it is time consuming.
Messed around with the forks a little for practice.
