My First Bike!! 76 CB750F

jngeorges
So guys I finally got around to posting this up here!!

1976 Cb750F

She's got around 35,000 miles.

I've just been messing around the past few days changing the oil (thanks for all the help) and i cleaned the carbs up last night and got her started up.

Right now I'm just kind of going over everything trying to get a feel for what I need to give immediate attention to.

I'm going to have about a million questions for everyone because you're all just so smart.

So what do you guys think? Did I do alright for 300 bucks?

I means its definitely all there.

Right now I'm trying to find some exhaust gaskets because there were none in there to start. and ive already been warned of the pant burning nature of exhaust gases! I know I can order a set of four from vintagecb750.com but does anyone know of a brick and mortar store I can pick them up at?

Also when I got it started last night there was a weird rapping at low rpms. Once i revved it up it went anyway. Any idea what that might be with the little to no information I've given??

Honda has the exhaust gaskets. They are about the same price when, you include shipping. The rattle, you mention is the carbs out of sync. I have heard them sound, so bad that, you thought the engine was going to fly apart. However syncing the carbs they were quiet, and ran smoother.

LOL, WE don't have the dolphins, they're way down in Miami…and I can't go there because I don't have my passport yet!

…and we're not "flatlanders"..there are places around here you can get up to about 80 feet elevation…like the dump! lol

80 feet in elevation?!?!Sounds like my driveway!

Triple your $? No problem It's a deal!No way I'd sell that bike, you got a keeper.Alot of my chrome(brake pedal, shifter arm, kick start...)was surface rusted, too.I cleaned it up with a soft brass wire brush.Worked well and has seen a lot of moisture since then.Still looks good. The chrome on these bikes typically cleans up well.Have fun scrubbing!Polishing coal into a diamond is always the funnest part of a new project!

So I hit some of the worst rust on the exhaust with a sanding pad on an air tool. Still chrome under there! I'm going to do some more tomorrow and post some pics, any idea what kind of pad I should be using so I dont damage the chrome?

allrighttyyy sorry for the slow updates, been really busy at work this week . I'm hoping to get out there tonight and start getting the rust off.

I've decided that i want to paint the exhaust black, just from the engine to the muffler. if i sand down the chrome could i use any type of hi temp spray paint?

i plan to repaint the whole bike and i dont have a huge budget so this is just a general "how the hell do i paint this thing?" question

my dad has professional spray guns that i could use but i dont have any idea what im doing. Does anyone have experience painting these things and is there any downside to sanding it all and using spray paint?

Just sand it, and use a good quality high heat spray paint. Also make sure it is clean.

Flat blk. can be touch up faster and easier, cause it will not last like we'd hope it would, the higher heat rang is going to require heat ,read the directions on can, they work great just don't last.

I know mine wont last,is covered by a heat shield, muffs don't get near as hot as header pipes
