the retainers on the frame pop up and the chain tensioners pivot out of the way and the whole wheel slides out.... I think the chrome end on the axle is on there for good, so the axle must slide through. I haven't gotten to work on it today. Tomorrow I'm going to get that thing out.. Thanks to all yinz.. I'll let ya know how she goes.

That is not a chrome cap. That is the axle.
That axle bolt and nut needs to come out before you can remove
the brake backing plate from the hub.
You have your hand over the nut on the end of the axle.
Once you remove the nut then your axle will slide right out.
You ARE a cityslicker! LOL
Oh well we all have to learn.

What you do flip the wheel over so the sprocket is down. Put towels or something under. rest the rim on your legs, sitting down. Push the threaded end as far as you can. Once it stops moving, whack it with a rubber mallet or a block of wood. The axle should come right out. Most likely there is surface rust built up on the axle.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!

that worked.. thank you... so whats with the drum breaks in there? does the whole thing get replaced, or is there a pad that glues onto the metal shindigamabob..
|
|
ok.... I got no spark.... no power to the coils.... I tried running a hot line to the coil straight from the battery, and still nothin.. does that mean the coils are shot?
the wiring is a godamn nightmare... anyone know where I could get the electrical taken care of in pittsburgh.. one thing I am no good at, nor care to be, is electrical wiring.

vintagecb750.com has, you covered, for both the break shoes, and the wiring. I think the replacement shoes are around $35.00, and a brand new wire harness is $75.00.

Also, I tried the kick start, and the thing won't budge,, what could be the cause of that? and what would be the remedy?

Remove the spark plugs, and the point cover. Then try to turn the engine with a wrench. Also, you could try putting it in high gear, and pushing it.

I got the whole manual printed out, and have been reading it. I'll try to remove the plugs and turn it.
I can't get her up into the higher gears. Yea it's going to be a challenge. I found a Guy with coils and a wire harness, So I'll have that stuff YAAY...

I raped a couple screws on the case trying to remove the cover... I'm bummed out about it.. I guess I'll keep soaking em in pb blaster torch em some and go at em with vice grips.. well the one that isn't counter sunk. the other that is... I don't know. cut a notch I guess and use a flat-head. I have been spraying pb blaster into the spark plug holes to try n un-seize the pistons. I'm going to spray them a couple more times then was thinking I'd drip some synthetic oil in there. I guess I'll be rebuilding this engine.. not my first choice but will be fun to see all the ins and outs of it.
Sorry for being so hard to help. I guess I just push paper all day, and never Fixed anything mechanical before because I ask advice when I need it.

Hey, Cityslicker, this sounds like a bike with a lot of issues. I know you probably don't want to face up to this but I would advise you make an honest assessment of how much work/cost there is here before you go spending a lot of money on it. For the money you are going to spend, perhaps you could get a running bike in much better shape.

Get yourself an impact driver (the kind, you hit with a hammer). They are $10-$15 dollars at most stores that sell tools. It's the only thing that will remove screws on a bike.

Peter is right about one thing,if it going to cost a bunch to fix it,and all you wanna do is ride, you might consider buying a turn key bike. But if you're like me,i got my bike because i wanted something new to learn and different to work on.Burned out on cars. Pushing paper don't matter,as long as you're willing to learn, you'll be OK. Hey,be proud to push that paper...you need that green kind of paper to fix your bike.Good luck!

I got the pistons freed, No sweat.. I'm siked.. thank you tools for the idea,, Good stuff..

You are welcome. I like to use a Fram oil filter CH 6009. It comes with new O-rings, and, you can get it at all most any auto parts store.

ya know when I got this thing, I was thinking, it's just a dime a dozen bike that I can easily find parts for that will work.. but after messing with her for a month or so now, I am really into this bike, I really like the old school look of the front end, and I'm siked every time I get home from work and I go into my shop and she's sitting there. I found another,, running for 600 with a title. bad carbs.. I think If the kid has it, I'm going to scoop that, up and use the best from both. then I'll have hella spare parts. no garage space but parts... :) I need to throw that GD transfer-case back in my jeep and roll her out side and let the rain wash the mud off it. and be ready for the snow.

A running bike with a title, title, for $600.00? Not bad. A titled frame is worth $100.00-$150.00.

Hey Slick I believe most fill the same (I DO) Once mine is running great ,1st on my list is to find a good parts bike(with title),
Think I can empty out a couple bottom drawers for the have to have parts.
PLAYING with my 750 is my Hobbie ,as well as my Elc.,they will never be done completly,
Think I'll go blue or change the style tires, there's so much you can do to call your own and not go wrong
