Re: Piute putt 1977 CB 750 F2

Piute
The batt was low when hit button (at work) so just kicked it and ran fine ,
(stopped and look at a cabin for rent didn't turn off)
At Shop,Had Paul test things out was putting out a weak 12.??,
So went to regulator ,put in fresh batt ,Had to turn the regulator adjuster all the way down
(mo volts) just to get 13.47 V ,Last check I got 14. at about 4k, We even check with a diff. Reg,
(It seemed to be junk),So put my stock one back,

SO MY QUESTION IS ,what and were is you adjustment on that screw?

Am looking to get a new one and also try this new model rectifire/regulator(used I have).

The Regulator can only modify what it has to work with...  Check the AC voltage output from the Alternator:  should be around 78-80 Volts AC RMS, between any two of the yellow wires.  If your Alternator is not putting out enough voltage, the Regulator can't help you.

Also, check for voltage drops across wires:  should never read higher than 0.2 Volts across the wires -- except the Starter Motor wires, due to the large amperage they carry.  They will show a voltage drop up to around 0.8 Volts when 70-100 Amps are flowing to the Starter Motor.  If you read a voltage greater than 0.2 Volts, then clean the connections on both ends, then replace the connectors, and if you still have higher than 0.2 Volts drop, replace the wire (soldering is much better than crimping the metal connectors to the copper, but doing both is the best -- crimp, then solder).

A fantastic book covering the topic, showing how to do all of this, is:  Motorcycle Electrical Systems: Troubleshooting and Repair (Motorbooks Workshop).  I checked out a copy from my local library -- added it to my Wish List on Amazon -- it is fantastic.  It explains, and demonstrates, how to do nearly everything you will ever need to do, on your bike's electrical system -- old, or new, it covers pretty much all bikes.  Cheers!

Yeah, mission riding is if only a couple of riders not a group of 10 or more,
About once a month it seems I'm caught with going faster then I'd like,
Just don't enjoy it as much as a 50-60 back road with a few turns every
       once in a while,
This group has a accident a month totaling a bike from drinking and
riding the way we were but faster I was told,(while having lunch)
A few of us broke off and went and got lost, well just went "that way" Then headed home.

Yep, there was a groupe that invited me along last summer. New bunch to ride with than my normal buds. 12 or so bikes, riding way too fast, blowing stop signs and crossing the centerline on curves... NO THANKS! I found my own way home.

So  too lazy to look back...
Going by the view of the rear pillar, quarter window, and tail light openings... going out on a limb here...
Is your Brothers car an old Chevelle Laguna? If so, I haven't seen one of those in years!

LOL. Def not a Laguna. The front end is too pretty to be a Laguna.  The Laguna is one body style that the General should be ashamed of! Love to see this paint job when it's done!

Glad to hear you, and the bike, are fine.  I've mentioned this before, but I will share it again (hope I'm not trying anyone's patience, doing so...).  There are some books, and a DVD set, which I highly recommend for any size bike:  Ride Like A Pro DVD.

It is aimed at heavy bikes, but I've used the techniques on a 750, as well as a little 440.  They really shine on my heavy touring 1200.  The secret, at slow speeds, and when making tight U-turns, is to slip the (wet only!!!) clutch, while dragging the rear brake, not the front.  This will stabilize the bike, allowing amazing control.  It does, however, take a bit of practice, to get down the basic technique.  To learn to do steering-locked turns, takes a lot more time.

The other critical thing, is to only use the rear brake when going slow.  If you apply the front brake, you will likely dump the bike.  I also learned that by leading with the rear brake, in all braking situations, the forks won't dive -- works one-up, or two-up, at every speed.  The trick is to lead with the rear, even in hard braking situations, including emergencies.  This will stabilize the bike during decelleration, like nothing else will.  Safe, and happy riding!  Cheers!

Sarge told me about riding the clutch and the rear brake when I first came on here and started riding.

It IS great info, and it works great! Knowing that bit of info going into my riding class made me look like a natural Can you believe they never covered that in the basic riding class? I nominate Sarge for riding instructor! Thx again Sarge

Re: Piute putt 1977 CB 750 F2

I'm just vomiting up what I've read, and seen, more than 20 years after I started riding.  I just learned about it two years ago.  There is a very great deal they don't discuss in the Basic course.  There is so much they cram into that class already, though.  My wife and son took it, on my recommendation.  My wife still swears by what she learned -- they really drilled it into her mind how to approach, and execute, turns, and basic stopping (minus the leading rear brake, unfortunately).

The clutch slipping only works on wet clutches...  On a dry clutch model (most BMW's?), your clutch will burn out in no time at all.  That technique is a little scary at first, and it takes some practice to do it smoothly, but it works so amazingly well.  The guy on the DVD I linked to, is a Police instructor, and a retired motorcycle cop.  Watching them handle their heavy HD's is amazing.  You really have to see it to believe it.  Then when you try it for yourself...  Whoa, Nelly!  It is worth the effort, though.  Cheers!
