Didn't this guy know about eBay?
I went to change the shifter oil seal on the Vulcan last night. I already knew the shifter had been repaired (the bike went down on its left side at some point), but check out how the previous owner fixed this shifter:
Instead of just getting a new or used part, he modified an old socket to fit the shaft, drilled and tapped a set screw, and welded what was left of the shifter to the socket.
I guess I'll give him credit for making it work, maybe it got wrecked back in '89 before eBay motors was so prevalent.
Anyway, he ground down the splines on the shaft so I couldn't install a replacement shifter without taking the engine out and installing a new shaft (you have to pull the engine to remove the cover).
