Removing CV Carb Slow Jets?

Half-Caf
Hey all, I've got my carbs off and can't figure out how to take my slow jets out (cv carbs). It looks like they take an allen head, but I've tried a couple with no luck. Can anyone tell me the size and/or give me some tips? Trying not to strip them out...

Secondary jet isn't pressed in.  You can use a small crescent wrench to remove the secondary main jet emulsion tube.  The emulsion tube has the secondary main jet screwed into it.

Look at this pdf and search for "secondary".  Lots of details here.

Hey no problem

Do you mean the air/fuel mix screw?  That thing has a tang on it that you either need to heat & remove or just cut off if you want to be able to fully adjust it.

Ok, turns out they DO have a slot for a standard screwdriver. There was gunk down in there so it only looked like a hole in the middle. This discovery has only helped me somewhat.
I was able to get a screwdriver that fit down in there, but I was only able to get 2 jets out. They were really jammed in there and required all of my body weight on the screwdriver to get them out. This is after I let them soak in blaster

I had no luck with the other 2. I tried tapping the end of the screwdriver with a hammer while turning. The top of that jet is now obliterated. The other problem jet is gnarled to the point where there is no more slot left for the screwdriver.

Please help me save my carbs!

Are they big enough to use an easy out on? From memory I think they are. Sounds like at the very least you'll need some new slow jets though. I believe you can get them alone or as a part of the kits. If I were you I'd check first though.

Do you have an impact driver? Its a screwdriver that you hit with a hammer and it turns a little bit. Some of the best $20 I've ever spent. Saved me many times already on this bike.

There is such a thing as carb cleaner.  Drop them in and let them soak.  Or have you done that already and I missed it somewhere.

Dude, this is the greatest reference ever for rebuilding carbs!! Includes an entire allen head screw replacement list for the silly "easy-strip" phillip head screws that come stock on the bowls, accelerator pumps and so on. What a great idea to include this list.

Thanks for posting man!

This stuff makes working on a bike much more pleasant and fun!

Thanks Wade,
I found it while researching how to clean them on a few different forums.  I have everything I found on the dohc carb cleaning thread.  Search for it and its an easy find.

FYI: If you purchase a JIS ... Japanese Industrial Standard... screw driver made to fit the Japanese screws you won't tear up so many "philips" screws.
